This is a known tech issue with MANY models of Volvo. The problem lies in the electrical connections in and between modules and sensors. Even seasoned Volvo techs have a hard time with this problem. I would definitely take it to a dealership and get a troubleshoot & diagnosis done. As far as I know, there are tech bulletins on the issue, but no recalls. A dealership would have the most recent and effective repair solutions to perform after doing a diagnosis.

ABS light occasionally comes on, only when making a turn. I stop, turn off motor and restart. It's fine and may not happen again for a few days. Until I get to a mechanic, is it safe to drive?

Yes she is still safe to drive. If the light is on, the abs system is disabled and the brakes revert to standard type brakes, meaning they may lock up during hard or emergency stops.

When brakes applied the steering wheel shakes.

Your disc brake rotors are warped. Solution? Remove the disc brake rotors and have them turned on a brake lathe. Warpage comes from a hot disc brake rotor going through a puddle of water which causes the warpage. If you have a Parking Brake, get in a safe area and when stopping, ONLY apply the parking brake. If the steering wheel stops shaking...there's your problem...warped disc brake rotors.

Anti lock brake light is on and a constant chiming like when a door is open

There is a malfunction in the braking anti-skid system and the chiming is telling you that it is not there in a hard stop. Your brakes default to normal braking but may lock up in a panic stop. It would behoove you to take it in and have your brakes and the antilock system chked. Safe driving. -Ned-

My brakes are not stopping my car very easily. I

Check the brake fluid, if you have good fluid level then you need to have the brakes checked out. They may not stop at all the next time. Better safe than relying on them to stop you.

My 1994 honda accord break lights wont turn off when car has stop

brake in a car is verry important for your saffety and others. that why they install many devices or systems to control them and make shure they work propely 1; brake light switch on the pedal floor(to indicate to the folowing car that you are stoping) 2;brake sensor fluid level (on the brake master cylinder under the hood)
to monitor the level of the fluid in the reservoir 3; brake pressure sensor (on the brake dispencer under hood) will warn you in case of brake pressure faillure .note, it may be more sensors, depending on the make of the vehicle but this is the tree comon causes for brake ligth to stay "on"
