I guess I'll try replacing the switch. fan works when power is put to it.

  • snclvc Mar 12, 2009

Thank you, I did try the fan and it does work when direct power is supplied. Is it the pneumatic side of the switch that is bad?

Could be the fan switch or even a bad ground for the blower motor.

odds are it's the fan switch then, before just putting in a part, try putting power through the wire to your blower motor. unplug the switch, get a hot wire, and put it to the copper connectors that would run to the motor. if it kicks on, it's your switch without a doubt.

Blower motor

I'm showing a blower relay and a resistor used on models with manual ac control.
The blower motor is grounded and the fan switch provides power thru the resistor. So you have a 40amp blower fuse that handles high thru the relay, then a 30amp HVAC fuse that powers the blower thru the fan switch.
Do you not have power from the resistor to the blower motor on the purple wire ?

GMC 2004 Envoy blows heat even with blower off ... Why ?

The relay in your blower motor is stuck on, there is a TSB for this issue. Replace the blower motor resistor and you'll be back in business.
How does the resistor get power if the fuse is pulled?
Replacing the resistor will cure both problems. TSB is a technical service bullitin seen below

I have a 2002 GMC Savana Cargo van with a a/c and heater blower that will not work. The problem started when I lost the low speed, then the medium, and finally the highspeed. Fuses and relays are ok.

You checked the fuse and relay, did you check to see if you had power at the resistor ?
American built vehicles control fan speed by the power circuit which goes thru the resistor. The high speed usually bypasses the resistor.
You may need a new blower motor or control switch.

Heater won't blow

Check your blower motor resistor connection.Turn switch and fan on then wiggle the resistor pigtail fan should turn on if not replace resistor. These get to hot and usally melt the pigtail and loose their connection.

POSSIBLE CAUSE BAD BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR OR BAD BLOWER MOTOR CONTROL SWITCH.

2005 gmc sierra blower wont turn on

Check the fuse first thing. If the fuse it good then either the blower motor speed control switch, blower motor resistor pack, or the blower motor itself is bad. Normally the speed control switch rarely goes bad. If some of the speeds did not work prior to total failure then the resistor pack is bad. If that is not the case then apply 12 volts directly to the blower motor to see if it is good. If it runs suspect the resistor pack as the culprit.

2003 gmc van the blower switch not working

Yes, definitly the blower motor resistor. Usually located just under the dash on the passenger side. Usually a result of mostiure entering the compartment where the resistor is located. Very common issue actually.
