Ah, passanger side, bolted to the motor from underneath, has two bolts holding starter in, flywheel cover over part of the starter and held in with 6 or 8 bolts. it's against the motor behind the exhaust manifold/lead down pipe.

I have a 1996 Chevy Suburban 1500. No crank or any noise or sound when trying to start. Battery is good, even tried jumping to make sure. Could this be the starter? If so, where is it located?

The starter is next to the side of the lower engine block where the engine and trans meet(I believe on the passenger side on GM V8s)You should get 12 volts on the small(purple?) wire of the solenoid when the key is turned to "start".If you don't get 12 volts when the key is turned,it could be the switch on the shifter(usually referred to as the PRNDL switch)IF you get 12 volts at the solenoid when you turn the key, replace the starter(my Chevy work truck has gone through 6 starters(ONE A YEAR)since I've had it!)

I know this is a stupid question but where is the starter located on the 1996 Chevy suburban? I was told it was not hard to replace and I want to give it a shot but I cant find it. Help Please

If nothing else, follow the 'positive' battery cable, that's where it goes. If you have the V-8 it'll be on the passenger side, under the motor. Wiggle underneath, behind the front tire (after blocking the wheels, just because..) and look up inside the frame rail. Should be two vertical bolts that hold it in. It's usually easiest to unhook/rehook the wires on the solenoid when the starter is off the motor, you might have to set the starter on something to hold it up so that the wires aren't all tight when you try to deal with them.

If you take pictures with your phone as you go it can make it easier when you don't remember what goes where.

You may have to shim this starter. Search here for "shim GM starter" or "shim Chevy starter" and you'll find how it's done.

Where do wires attach on starter 96 chevy suburban 1500 5.7 engine

Ignition wire to solenoid. Battery to solenoid. Then one wire from solenoid to starter.

I have a 96 chevy suburban w/5.7L 350, that has needed 5 starters

If you are shimming them correctly, there should not be a problem. I will say from experience that a lot of the Auto Zone/Advance Auto Parts starters/alternators are junk. I started buying from Napa, and the dealer, and have had minimal problems since.

Electronic problem in 1996 Chevy Suburban 1500

srgy,
Have 96 burb and had similar issue. Mine was finicky about starting sometimes and thought it was the neutral safety switch. Turns out, it was the starter solenoid. Not positive yours is same issue, but it is worth checking.
