Question about 1991 GMC K3500

1 Answer

Transmission stops working when truck warms up When truck is driving for roughly 20 minutes to an hour and is warmed up, it downshifts itself into second gear and must be shut off for a period of time before it is able to resume driving at regular speed. Had it at the shop three times, each time the truck is put on machine for electrical reading the speed sensor code comes up as the problem, this is not the problem though because it was changed in one of the trips at the shop. Mechanic calls it failsafe mode.

Are you sure this is a 1991. Gm didn't put electronic controlled shift solenoids on the 700r4 until 1993. This sounds like a shift solenoid but if it is a 1991 it could be a governor valve.

When 1994 lincoln continetal is warm will not shift into second or reverse

The transmission is failing.
Check fluid for level and quality. If level is low, add transmission one pint (16 ounces) at a time until the level on the dipstick is correct. If the level is good but the transmission fluid is dark in color, tan in color, watery, or obviously burnt, start by having the transmission fluid and filter replaced.

Hard shifting manual transmission - warm/hot

check the clutch operation especially the m/cylinder for failure. The fluid and the master cyl. is probably not disengaging the clutch enough. the rears will not necessarily grate as the synchros are working overtime to spin the gears for alignment because the clutch shaft is still moving under power from the engine.

Do you mean upshifting starts way early? Going from 2nd to 3rd in other words?
Ireally don't know your transmission, but the alternator problem might've possibly spiked and hurt your shifting solenoids in the ******. don-ohio (:^)

I have a 2002 Santa Fe AWD (2.7L) with 302K KM. Two weeks ago, I noticed on two occasions that the transmission did not downshift as smoothly as before from 3rd to 2nd (auto trans) as I approached a stop...

first try flushing and replacing the transmission fluid,if this dose not help take unit to a trans service centre have them check the valve body, you may have some shift solinoid malfunction

There is a recall for harsh downshift in 4cyl versions of your generation Sonata. It is a simple ecu update a dealer can do and it should cost you nothing.

It's 12 degrees outside, how long should i leave the engine of my 2007 ford focus running to warm up?

Wait for the temp gauge to lift off of the low end stop. The car is then warm enough to drive. Be very gentle on the trans for the first 20 miles or so, because the transmission relies on engine heat to warm up the trans fluid. Cold trans fluid is very dense and can cause the transmission to slip, causing gear damage.
