2005 chevy dually 3500 is full of gas but range reads 112 miles

If you get really bad gas mileage, it could be true. I never pay attention to this. I watch how many miles I drive to how much fuel I put in. Believe what you know, instead of that computer, that can fail at any time. If you are getting that bad of gas mileage, time for some engine work.

Why does my tahoe use so much gas

its not the gas its the price of the gas that seems like bad mileage go to gas station and fill till gas pump clicks off at slow fill record mileage and gallons to fill/road test for 25 miles go back to same gas station same side of gas pump and refill at slow fill and record miles and gallons to refill this will give you best practice for fuel mileages/PS drive in cityor highway not both causes difference in gas mileage

Burning gas

oxygen sensor faulty, engine out of time, crank or camshaft sensor.

Bad Gas Mileage Causes:
  • Having bad oxygen sensors and air filters can reduce your gas mileage by up to 20%. The oxygen sensors help keep the proper mixture of air and fuel, and having this off balance can be inefficient. The air filters can get clogged and simply need to be unclogged to fix the problem. Air filters need to be cleaned so that the engine can work at its peak performance.
  • Your spark plugs are responsible for sparking combustion in your engine. If they misfire, or are working poorly, this can effect your gas mileage in a negative way.
  • Having bad fuel injectors can cause bad mileage. This is because the fuel injectors are responsible for putting fuel into the engine. If there is a leak of some sort, then less fuel will make it to the engine, and then in turn make it run less efficiently.
  • Having your air conditioner on causes a lot of gas to be wasted in powering the system. If you can, turn off the air conditioner, and ride with your windows open. At higher speed, close the windows though to reduce drag.
  • A common cause of bad mileage is your own driving habits. If you are an aggressive driver, likely you accelerate to quickly. This causes more fuel to be used, and will use up more gas than you need. Same goes for revving your engine. It may sound cool, but it uses up gas for going nowhere.
  • Many people waste gas by idling. Idling is when you have your engine on, but you are parked and not moving. Common places where this occurs is when you are trying to warm up your car in the winter, or while you are waiting to pick someone up. Your car really doesn't need more than 30 seconds to warm up the engine. When it comes to waiting for someone, turn your car off or put it into neutral. Since you aren't moving, you might as well save gas and the environment.
  • The type of motor oil that you are using can also affect your gas mileage up to 12%. You want to use motor oils that are high in reducing friction. Either use asynthetic oil or the oil that the car's manual recommends.
  • The more revolutions per minute you make your engine do, the more gas you will use. The easy way to combat this is to just drive slower. Driving the speed limit of 55 miles per hour is much more fuel efficient than driving at 60, 65, 70, etc miles per hour.

Loss of power, hesitation, bad gas mileage

Clean the MAF sensor. Could also need a tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter. Could also have a stopped up catalic converter that needs to be replaced.

Bad fuel mileage

We all are. Its called obsurd gas prices! But really, get your oil changed and replace your air filter and possibly go all the way and pay for a tune up. You will see the increase in power performance and gas mileage.

My 2000 rodeo isuzu always has the check eng lite on everyone has said there's nothing rong with it. I am having problems with it's tran it's shifys riff and is slowing down. Il have a full tank of gas...

There can be two problems that can cause you with your gas mileage problem. 1. your O2 sensor is bad - that would make your can slow to response and gives poor gas mileage. 2. your air-mas sensor - its a sensor that is connect to your air filter. if that's bad. it would give you the same slow response and bad gas mileage. The best thing you can do is. Take it to your nearest auto store and have them plug in a diagnose tool(code scanner) and they would tell you exactly what is wrong with your car. And this will not cost you anything.
