Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

There is gas in the intake manifold of my 99 Silverado LS 1500 5.3?

While driving, the truck started running very bad, motor lugging down, gave more gas, acted as it was flooding out. Eventually the engine light came on then the engine shut down and would not crank. Changed fuel pump less than a year ago. Receintly changed the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter. Still will not start. Took of the intake manifold cover and alot of gas poured out. Not good. My son n law hooked to his computer and the results :PO137 - 02 CKT Low Volt - B1S2 and PO140 - 02 CKT No Activity - B1S2 and PO141 - 02 Htr CKT Malf - B1S2 and PO171 - System too lean - Bank 1 and PO332 - Knock Sens 2 Ckt Low Imput and PO404 - EGR Ckt Range Problem. What do you think is going on. Thanks Jerry email:

Sounds like a stuck open injector to me. I think most if not all of those codes are ghosts caused by the computer trying to make sense of all that fuel. Plug the injectors in and bump the key and see if one is spurting fuel. Have a fire extinguisher ready, and aim the injectors into a bucket if you can.

did you check the fuel pressure? there is a sharder valve on the fuel rail to do this. i know you have to have a certain amount of pressure in order for it to run.i think on fuel injection its around 60 to 70 psi.and on throtle body is around 30 to50.psi. i also know if you run your truck low on fuel alot it will burn up the pump gas is what keeps pump cool. also you said you found a pluged filter witch over time will burn up the pump. hope this helps.

It sounds like they have got the distributor out of time. You will need to adjust the distributor. That is what it sounds like.

Why is my truck idling and running so ruff? But when I un plug the MAF it runs fine

Vacuum leaks. Check hoses. Also check the intake manifold at the gasket. To check the intake (have the MAF plugged in) Spray some wd40 around the intake at the gasket seal. If the engine starts running fine at some point. Replace the intake manifold gasket.

I have a 1999 chevy silverado with 5.3 v8 po171 & 174 and po420 in that order at times the truck seems to loap when at idel any ideas where to start?

Thes code 171 nad 174 are bank 1 and bank 2 system to lean(02 sensors). these are probably causing the 420 catalist efficency below threshold. The first place to start is all the vacuum lines. check for vacuum leaks. when you get the first two codes 99% of the time it is a vacuum leak. 1% is the mass air flow meter/sensor. And I don't believe you have one on your truck. to old. Also you have to check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold. use WD40 , spray around the manifold gasket areas if the engine runs better you found a leak.

I hace a 2003 lincoln ls v8 3.9l. I was driving

Try taking the exhaust pipe loose at the manifold. I had a Chevy Suburban that acted the same way, it turned out to plugged catyletic converter. The converter wasn't letting the exhaust out, the truck had no power, it would stall and then start right up and great for about five seconds the run rough and quit. Once I disconnected the exhaust it started right up and ran great. You could also try taking the O2 sensors out (for test purposes) ahead of the converter that will give the exhaust a place to go

Not sure I have solution to your problem, but
1) Try checking for vacuum /air leaks on the inlet manifold and air intake system.
2) Check all manifold nuts / air hose clamps are not loose.

Cooling leaking inside engine

If it does there may be a recall on it. Always check with the dealer before doing a big repair. Even though the truck is old they may still do it for free.
