Question about Cars & Trucks
Most transmissions are filled through the dip stick hole tube. Check the level hot and in drive. Use a clean small funnel add as muck correct oil as required as to bring the level to the mark (Not all transmissions use the same oil and incorrect type will damage the transmission)

this t-bird has a 5r55s trans. it does not have a dipstick.
it has a "standpipe" type leveling system.
to check fluid level the tranmission has to be within 80-120 degree f.
take the plug out of the center of the fitting located on the bottom of the trans pan. it is a torx 30.
running in park the fluid should drip slower than a coffee pot.
to add you need a npt thread fitting the same as the little plug you removed. and attach a bottle of mercon5 and hose to it. squeeze the bottle to add fluid
then recheck it by letting it drain out to a fast dribble. then install the little plug back in. remember 80-120 degree fluid temp.

Hi and Welcome to fixya.
First of all you have to dipsticks one for oil and the other for Automatic fluid pull this one out and this is where you top up your Auto fluid, start the engine and let it idle in park position first check your level on the dipstick if low top up but don't go mad with topping up just a little bit at the time you don't want to over fill it,once done this replace dipstick and turn off engine, hope this helps you.

I had the defective cooler replaced yesterday and the Ford service manager told me there is no pan or filter in the 2008 escape, only a screen.

Hello and Welcome to Fixya,
Very sorry Sir, as far as I know. The Dip stick is not included in this model. The transmission fluid must be checked only by the professionals at the dealership's place using special tools for the job (so that the unit shouldn't be over runned by the user and for long life safety of the engine). You should contact the dealer near your place for the completion of the job!
Keep using Fixya

The high pressure filter and fluid are supposed to be changed at 60k intervals. Ford has a very specific oil for this transmission and the service fee will be $300 to $450 - mine was around $420.
No other car place will touch the CVS transmission in a Ford Freestyle and most Ford dealerships are clueless on thier maintenance and repairs. On most issues that crop up the first thing they want to do is swap it out - for $4000+.
