SOURCE: Brake lights erractic on 1996 Monte Carlo

It could be wiring, a bad ground, a defective plug to the tail-light, the tail-light itself, a loose fuse, or a dirty or faulty connection at the hazard switch. If it is the hazard switch you can try to actuate it (on and off) 6 to 12 times. This may help clean off the contacts and let the brake lights, return to normal.

Turn signal switch. With you foot on the brake have someone stand behind the car. Wiggle the turn signal lever and see if the the brake lights flicker.

SOURCE: Can't find the fuse box for a 96 Monte Carlo

The fuse box is located on the passenger side panel of the dash . you have to open the passanger door to get at it.

The other fuse boxes are under the hood, on each side under a diagonal support arm that has to be removed to get at the fuses & relays

My 1996 monte carlo brake lights wont work?

You need to replace the stop light switch. Most are mounted on the upper portion of the brake pedal, on some vehicles they are attached to the master cylinder. It's an $8 part.

My hazards and brake lights work but my turn signals do not

ok my grandmother has a 1996 Monte Carlo and she had no brake lights and the turn signals barely worked! there is a part in the steering wheel that controls all of this and it cost about 220.oo dollars when it was all said and done cause you have to order the part from General Motors. Best of luck to you!!!!!!!
