You will need a trip to the your local parts store. You should be able to buy a brand new lock cylinder for about 15-20 dollars. Tools needed will be a socket set, steering wheel puller, phillips screwdriver, and a set of torques bits and driver. If you pull the steering wheel and unscrew the hazard knob and turn signal arm, then unscrew the turn signal switch you will be able to remove the mounting screw that holds the lock cylinder into the coulmn. install new cylinder and now you have a new key for the truck.

SOURCE: ignition tumbler locked up

try a spare key, or push key into lock while turning
it is the tip [pointy end] of the key that releases the switch tumbler lock allowing it to turn. keys & switches wear out, a 'heavy' key ring especially wears the switch.

SOURCE: replacing ignition switch in 2001 chevy silverado

Not the igniton switch, its the ingition cylinder and or the housing. The switch is not part of what you are really turning. It's connected to it via gears. The common problem is the key gets worn out and the tumblers wear also. Eventualy they do not line up right and will not make the "bar" drop in the cylinder to allow it to turn from the off positon. If you have the title in your name and the key has never been rekeyed or the code has been changed you can go down to a dealership with all of the info for the truck and they can cut you a key from the vin number. You can try that first before you put a cylinder and housing in it.

The key to my 2001 lincoln ls that opens the trunk and starts the car broke in half will it still start the ignition

How you gonna turn key if half is broken in switch? Go to dealer with your vin number and proof of ownership and get another key.

And remove the broken piece so you can insert the new key.

Master keys

A good locksmith should be able to duplicate the key. They will need to put it in a vise and mark the new key to cut it. Not just stick it in an automatic machine like at a hardware store.

2006 Cobalt LS Coupe Intermittent Starting Problem

sounds about right, probably is ignition switch, reason you don't get codes is because if power is'nt connecting to engine while problems occurs then ecm won't pick it up. you should have 2 ignition switches, (the lock cylinder and key switch, the other is the electrical, usually located under the dash, and commonly atttatched to the column close to the firewall, check connections first, it may just be a loose plug in connection

Car ran fine shut it off came back it didn't want to start. started went about half a mile sputered an died wouldn't start back up 1991 subaru loyal wagon

Hi sounds like the typical fuel pump or filter problem with these cars, best way to tell is take top fuel hose off on fuel filter under hood, turn key on ignition (not start) and fuel should pump out, if not its your pump, just beware of doing when engine is hot

Ok so here it goes,I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT v6... about 3 weeks ago my boyfriend ran seafoam through my car. The car was working fine, a couple days after the seafoam treatment (done correctly),...

You have spent a fortune just to make it start, guessing all the problems, you forgot to tow it to the nearest garage or dealer that could scan your computer for the possible cause of the problem.
The ECU will tell if one or any parts in the ignition that probably malfunctioned. As you have said it got no spark to the ignition, the pick up relay module in the ignition system is already broken/malfunctioning, that might be the cause of the problem.

I would recommend to bring your car to the nearest dealer and have them scan your computer than spending some more on just guessing problems.

Hope that helps you out!

I have a 1988 chevy s-10 pick up with the 2.5l 4 cylinder engine with high miles. The truck died while driving and now will not strat. I think it may be a bad ignition module.

The easiest way to check for spark is to pull a spark plug wire or the coil wire enough that the spark has to jump a gap. The spark will jump a quarter of an inch and make a snapping noise doing it. Have someone else turn the ignition key while you look and listen for the spark. Don't hold the wire during this, it might use you for a spark plug. It's 20,000 volts (or more) for a very short time, which won't usually kill you, but it is an unpleasant jolt (the voice of experience talking here)...
