I think I would start with checking fuel pressure. You should have at least 40PSI at the fuel rail. You might have someone help you our and turn on the key while you get under your vehicle and listen for the whirrr of the fuel pump. It should cycle for about 3 seconds when the key is turned to the "ON" position to prime the system to start. If you can not hear the pump run or it does not sound smooth I think you will need to replace it.

Thanks Bowtie352, the fuel pump does not seem to be the problem, fuel pump as suggested can be heard running after initial switch on and again after cranking engine. I will however check the pressure at the rail as suggested. What I find most confussing though is that I got the car going eventually after a lengthy process as descibed while cold, once started and when it was hot it started fine every time. After the diagnostic test was run and the error code removed the car started fine and I proceededback home, however after I got home and switched of it would not start again, and once it was cold, started up and ran for approx 4 secs and cut out, now all efforts to start are in vain.

P1320 is the Ignition Signal Primary. There is a technical bulletin for this code for this vehicle. To remedy this issue, you will need to replace all 6 ignition coils. I suggest that you purchase them from a Nissan dealer to make sure you get the right ones.

    98 mercury villager no start , code P 1320

Here is the entire description for the code -

When is the code detected? When the ignition signal in the primary circuit is not sent to Engine Control Module (ECM) during engine cranking or running.

Symptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P1320 NISSAN Description The ignition signal from the Engine Control Module (ECM) is sent to and amplified by the power transistor. The power transistor turns on and off the ignition coil primary circuit. This on-off operation induces the proper high voltage in the coil secondary circuit
Possible causes - Faulty power transistor unit built into ignition coil
    - Ignition primary circuit is open or shorted (circuit to ignition coils)
    - Ignition primary circuit poor electrical connection (circuit to ignition coils)
    - Faulty ignition system condenser
    - Crankshaft position sensor circuit

help.png Help with this Tech notes The most common cause that will trigger the P1320 code is the ignition coils, one or more ignition coils may have failed. Even tough the coils may be working OK, the resistance for one or more of the coils is greater or smaller that what the Engine Control Module (ECM) is expecting. Measuring the resistance with the coil out of the vehicle may not show any failures, usually the coil fails under heavy conditions (hard acceleration) or certain temperatures.

The P1320 code means that there is problem with the "Ignition Coil" or the wire to the ignition coil. For some models without individual ignition coils the Ignition Coil is inside the distributor and the distributor need to be replaced to fix the problem.

    Loosing primary ignition

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P1320 is a "manufacturer-specific" OBD fault code defined by Nissan in this case simply as "Ignition Signal Fault".

This is a kind of "catch-all" primary ignition fault code. It is common for this code to set along with other codes.
Service information from the manufacturer states that if there are any other ignition codes present (like P0340) service those codes FIRST before trying to fix this code.

DTC P1320 sets when the ECM does not receive an ignition primary signal during engine cranking or running.

The possible causes of this code include:
    > Open or shorted primary ignition circuit. (wiring)
    > Defective power transistor
    > Defective resistor
    > Faulty Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor

The location of some parts and the routing of the wiring depends on if the vehicle is equipped with the 4-cylinder or the V-6 engine. (nice-to-know information - ESPECIALLY when you are asking for help getting your engine running correctly).

On either engine, the power transistor and the CMP sensor is part of the distributor assembly.

On the 4-cylinder engine, the resistor is on the left front side of the engine next to the distributor.
On the V-6 engine, the resistor is on the top right side of the engine (see diagram)

The diagnosis of this code must include checking both the power side and ground side of the primary ignition circuits to determine the cause. The wiring for each of the available engines varies slightly. I recommend going to alldatadiy.com where you can subscribe to the specific service information for your vehicle and have access to step-by-step instructions on how to diagnose this code as well as wiring diagrams for the vehicle. The small annual fee is well worth it if you do your own work on your vehicle.

I'm getting trouble code p01320 on 2000 nissan

p1320 is a ignition primary signal code. you may need ignition coils. not a common issue on a 2000 sentra, but depending on milage you may need coils. unfortunatelly you dont have a specific cylinder number code stored such as p0301 which is number 1 cylinder misfire and so on in your case p0301 to p0304 because its a 4 cylinder vehicle. with the p1320 its usually the whole set of 4 coils.
