Have you check the injector relay or maybe a fuse for injectors.

SOURCE: 1989 GMC 2500 5.7L - engine surges and stalls at idle. Loses power at cruising speed.

Wow you have replaced a lot of stuff. Lets go back to the Fuel pump. When you replaced it did you replace the hose between the pump and the sending unit. These are common for splitting. Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to check what pressure you have? It should be real close to 13 psi and should raise to at least 18 or 19 when you pinch off the return line.

Have you heard of Noid lights? You unplug the fuel injector and plug these in and they will light up if the injector is getting power. This might give you a better hint. There are also lights that go inbetween the spark plug and wire. Between these two items you may be able to narrow down the problem to a specific system. I believe that your car has a coil pack. Some of these engines have problems with the crank trigger. I believe it is located on the back side of the motor. If you decide to change it, be careful. I have heard of them breaking into two pieces and becoming a big problem.

2 solutions: first, ignition control module is getting hot and shutting car down. 2nd; you didn't mention your dash(service soon) lights were on.

You said the fuel filter was pretty clogged up. It's sounds like a bad case of EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). The ethanol;being a corn deritive;acts like corn liquor(which is what is is), and turns the fuel to goop, and adds large amounts of water through out all the systems.

It clogs up the fuel lines, the injectors, and ruins fuel pumps. It also puts heavy carbon on egr valves, int. and exh. valves, and can ruin oxy sensors, and catalytic converters.

Let's try the cheapest way first:Buy a can of SEAFOAM and Berkline 2+2 at your parts store. Take out the oxy sensor(s) and clean the ends using the 2+2 and re-install.
Then change out the fuel filter again. Pour the SF into a tank of PREMIUM(only) gas. Change the pcv valve. Then start vehicle and let idle for 3-5 min(even if you have to rev it up to do it to get the SF flowing through the system), and then drive it 10 hard miles.

Replace that fuel filter, and then let it idle some more. Your car sounds like it is really messed up bad. Unless you take it to a garage that has a fuel system cleaner machine, this is the best way to do it.

After this, add SF every 3-5000 miles to your tank. It will prevent this from happening again. Also; to be on the safe side. Have a PSI check on your fuel pump. This goop could have burnt it up. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: 89 suburban. No spray from injectors after replacing ESC

The fuel pump should be in the 20s. Also it could be losing presure slowly. Leave the fuel pump pressure gage on for at least 2 to 3 hours to see if it is losing pressure - It's a start

Start great runs 10 min. Dies will not start again

It sounds like a clogged fuel filter. Can you tell me about the vehicles history? The more information the better. When was the last tune-up. Were there any resent repairs performed? Have you done any tests? Like a fuel line pressure test? anything small that you may have noticed while looking over the engine and/or the rest of the car? I hope this helps, Please let me know if you have more details or questions.

1989 S-10 started running rough, now it's not running at all.

WOW ! believe it or not you did good ! what else could it be ? does this engine have a MAS, mass air flow sensor ? sell your scanner or take it back for refund, buy a new MAS, if your engine has one, and replace your air cleaner if you haven't. this part is a major player, if you have one, make sure its an OEM replacement part, not after market ! have you checked all your VACUUM LINES, is this an automatic ? anther thing, now that I'm thinking, what kind of COIL do you have ? I would suspect your coil and all that relates to the coil ! DO THIS FIRST ! before anything else. then more on, but I have a idea that this is it, go for it, when coils get too hot they tend to go bad, how are your spark plug wires ?

I have a 1989 GMC K2500 Starts and runs strong. After runing about 20 min it quits bad. You can crank on it and it turns over but will not start. Great spark at the coil but can smell fuel. Let it set for...

Sounds like you have leaking injectors. take the air cleaner assembly off and watch the injectors while the truck is running. If you see any drips of fuel coming from the injectors, the are at least dirty or possibly bad. I would recommend running some Seafoam injector cleaner through your fuel system and see if that helps.

The other thing to think about is the coil itself. Coils are notorious for working when they are cold, but then qutting when hot.
