Question about 1995 Jeep Cherokee
Here is my problem, well a friends problem. They have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee 6cyl 4.0 which was purchased as a used vehicle and when I replaced the distributor cap and rotor I found out the motor is in fact a 1987 motor. The problem that I am having is the jeep will not start. I can make it start by holding the throttle body flapper open ( like holding your foot on the peddle ) by hand but when I let go of it the jeep dies. What controls ( opens ) the flapper to make the jeep start properly and stay running with out holding your foot on the peddle? Thanks Edward
Did the engine run before the cap, rotor?
The butterfly is operated bya cable from the gas pedal which controls the amount of air into the intake, the fuel is controled by the throttle position sensor, and map sensor and idle is controlled by a idle air control valve which regulated idle rpm by the amount of air allowed into the intake.
I would have to say that either the iac has gone out,or the hole where the iac pintle goes has carboned up blocking air flow,or the worst case the ecm is not the right one from a 1995 to a 1987 motor but if it ran ok before I would look into the probability that your problem is the iac.
