SOURCE: Gear shifter

Sounds like just the brake-shift interlock getting stuck. I would try using the override to get the shifter working again, then use the parking brake to keep it from getting jammed in the future.

The parking brake will reduce the pressure on the gearbox, especially when parked on an incline. If the interlock continues to jam, you probably do need to have the shifter replaced.

WHY WONT MY 97 S10 2 WHEEL DRIVE WONT GO INTO GEAR WHEN I PUT FOOT ON BRAKE PUSH BUTTON ON SHIFTER SHIFTER WONT MOVE

The car has an interlock system that prevents you from shifting without putting your foot on the brake ..The brake pedal switch not only controls the stop lights, but also sends voltage to an actuator that unlocks the gear shift. Check the brake pedal switch for failure or loose connections or blown fuse that feeds that circuit . If you look in your Manuel there is a way to override and unlock the gearshift incase of voltage failure.

Gear shifter wont engage transmission and making a clicking noise

if you press the shifter and it moves ,then at transmission side, something is loose or came apart,at gear selector side of transmission, some kind of E clip. or C clip

but if the shifter from inside the car not moving at all,

there is switch under brake pedal that is bad and need to be changed look at brake pedal and follow it up toward fire wall from inside the car where at that point upper part of pedal connected to master cylinder

2003 Aviator: Button on the gear shift lever will

Yes, there is a switch on the brake pedal that could have been knocked loose or broken. There is a solenoid lock on the shifter lever in the transmission console. Here is a big post on it from a paid advice sight. https://www.justanswer.com/ford-lincoln/3ohnl-2003-lincoln-aviator-frequently-locks-park-gear.html

My2001 vw jetta manual transmission wont come out of 3rd gear and i dont know why

Does the shifter feel loose? Does it drive in neutral or does it lock in two gears if you select a different gear? I'm trying to determine if it is a transmission problem or a shifter problem. It is likely a shifter problem.

1995 crown vic gear problems/gear shift wont lock

if the shifter is loose and sloppy feeling then the shift cable bracket has come loose under the dash at the steering wheel. remove the lower panel under the steering wheel so you can see under the dash then get flash light and look while jiggling the shifter. you should be able to see the cable and bracket. if the bracket is loose then tighten the bolts. note this bracket is at the steering colum.
