SOURCE: cant compress piston on rear brake calipers

Use a caliper wind back tool which rotates the piston at the same time as pushing it back. Release the bleed screw to assist the wind back. If you use a brake hose clamp on the brake hose this will reduce the need to bleed the system.

SOURCE: rover 45 rear brake pad renewal (caliper problem)

you have to fitt the caliper realy tight to get a good hand brake..remove the caliper..With pads in place. Press the brake to push out the piston.Only a little. Then replace the caliper with it realy tight onto pads. Then work the handbrake up and down a few times then you should be ok.Dont worrie about the brake being a bit tight.Just take it for a short run then.It will losen up.The handbrake is self adjusting.

SOURCE: compressing the rear disc brake caliper on 2008 grand caravan

The rear calipers on these models require a special tool that compresses and turns the piston in at the same time -- most parts stores carry this tool.

It is called a caliper piston press -- and it installs where the pads would go and acts like a c-clamp,when turning handle it will turn the caliper piston backinto the caliper as it compresses it.
Anytime the brake rotor or brake pads are being replaced, the rear caliper piston must be seated (bottomed) to compensate for the new brake rotor or lining. Because the Parking Brake self-adjuster mechanism is attached to the piston, a special seating method is required. The only acceptable method is by rotating the piston back into the bore using Retractor,MILLER Special Tool 8807, . Any other seating method will damage the self-adjuster mechanism.
Good luck and hope this helps.

You could try striping and cleaning the caliper then rebuilding it if you are able to get a kit to replace the rubber parts and pistons that are damaged

How do you rebuked the brake caliper on a 1994 Mazda protege?

I`m guessing you mean rebuild caliper. it is probably cheaper to buy a rebuilt one then rebuild,, if you don`t have experience you won`t know it the caliper condition is good enough to rebuild then if you damage the new seals while putting it together then you have to buy another kit and a piston if its bad.

Where can i find rear caliper carrier mounting bolts for peugeot 407

On the back side of the brakes, will be 2 bolts attached to steering knuckle. You have 2 ways to remove it. You can take the 2 bolts that hold the caliper onto the caliper mounting bracket, usually a rubber boot on them, then remove the caliper. At that point, you'll have easier access to the 2 remaining bolts that screw into the knuckle. The other option is just remove the whole assembly, remove the 2 bolts in the mounting bracket to remove the whole thing.

Sticking caliper

You'll have to re-build the caliper or replace it.. If it is rebuildable, kits are cheap and pretty easy to do. Consult any old repair manual. Of course, you'll have to break the line apart, so you have to bleed them again-sigh.

When i pull the emergace brake up it does not stop

You need to take the wheel off and see what is physically happening when you pull the ebrake. Check to make sure that it is even moving the caliper.

Well the parking break is a cable that hooks right up to the calipers it is designed to be able to lock the breaks even if you blew out a break line. So bleeding the breaks won't help you unless your caliper pistons are seized. I would repplace the parking break cables and the springs that are on the calipers first. If that doesnt work get a rebuild kit for your rear calipers and that should do it.

Hope helps.

Do I need a whole new caliper...or just replace some components?

You need to describe the problem more clearly. All I see in the post is a question of if you need to replace a caliper or just replace some components. Without knowing why you think you need a new caliper, ie what is wrong, we have no way to tell. It could be a bad line, bad seal, faulty brake booster or anyone of a hundred other problems. A caliper locking is not necessarily the caliper. On the other hand a rear caliper has rebuild kits you can get where as a front caliper does not. Rear calipers are inexpensive and easily replaced so I assume you are talking about a front caliper.

Stuck calipers

You may have contaminated brake fluid. Try flushing out the brake lines, calipers, and master cylinder by bleeding the heck out of the brakes. Use a NEW can of brake fluid (see why below). This is something overlooked in vehicle maintenance. Whenever doing a brake job, flush the system. I learned the hard way, having calipers drag, not fully releasing, to change them and have it happen again. Finally figured out it was bad fluid which was ruining the calipers. Brake fluid absorbs moisture, which will wreck the system. Just leaving a bottle of fluid with a loose, or missing cap will allow moisture to enter. Brake lines will rust on the inside, and loose particles of rust floating around will cause big problems.

How much does a brake repair kit for a 87 dodge mini ram van cost

My personal opinion is you don't want to rebuild a caliper. Most times now calipers are replaced as a unit (you can replace just one side without a problem) as the labor and time to work on a caliper is offset by the price of a new or rebuilt unit from a parts store. I don't have the pricing for your particular vehicle, but a phone call to an auto parts store can get you a price and availability instantly. I'm not sure if most auto supply stores would even stock the pistons and seals needed for the rebuild job.
