Moisture in the ht leads /cap or moisture in the plug coil wires or distributer cap

    Water on the high tension leads to the plugs will cause a short to the earth rather than through the plugs especially if you are running cheap plug leads which do not have the same insulation properties as the more expensive ones.. If you have goil packs for each plug then the water will affect the coils at the wire point of entry into the pack. If you have a distributor moistuer ?condensation gets inside the cap ans allows the spark to track to earth rather than jump the gap to the plug leads. Dirty cap/wire insulators are not helpful in you instance.

I just had the rack and pinion and lines replaced on my 99 contour svt. Why does the steering lock up when I start it? The steering wheel spins when it's turned off though.


you did put the belt back on the right way when you did the rack and pinion. not put the belt the wrong way round the power steering pump

something is wrong in the steering column where the key cylinder unlocks the column Either the car was damaged by an attempt to steel the vehicle or it is altered using non factory original parts. If you customized the steering you should have seen the issue while the steering wheel was removed while checking the key

Should be near the thermostat housing where the upper radiator hose connects.

Truck starts fine and idles ok. spits and sputters at 2000 to 2500 rpms and will not rev over 2500 rpms. i've already replaced the MAF sensor.

I have a 1997 Nissan Kingcab SE 4x4 with a 2.4. Everytime it rains it wants to spit and sputter. What causes this to happen?


i would check the distributor cap for cracks, this can draw moisture when it rains, and cause a engine to do as you are saying, spit and sputter, and even cut out.

I have a 1998 Ford contour SVT and I pulled it into the garage last night and it will not start now. Any ideas??


the most probable cause is that the electric fuel pump has failed, to confirm this get a can of spray starting fluid and spray some into the air intake hose of the engine, if it starts u need a new fuel pump.

OIL FILTER BLEW OFF OR MUSHROMED OUT


Replace the oil filter, fill crankcase with proper amount of oil, drive car away and pray to God it was just a defective oil filter.

How "old" was this oil filter and how long ago was it supposedly replaced? Does the SVT have an oil pressure gauge (I know my non-SVT contour does not) and did you notice anything on the gauge (super-high pressure) before the filter burst?

Unfortunately, the idiot light tells you there is "NO" oil pressure, which is the condition you encountered after the filter went south.
