Re: How to replace an entire Car Door? (Ford Escort)
You will need to remove the door panel and unplug and wiring for power windows, locks, speakers, etc. Then support the bottom of the door with a floor jack or block of wood. A friend to help would be good. Unbolt the door at the door hinge either on the door or the body, depending on how it is mounted. You will need metric wrenches, and sockets, screwdrivers for the door panel .

You need to have the door forced open before you can access the hinges and remove it.
Remove the interior door trim and the door can be unbolted at the door hinge area. Examine the door on the undamaged passenger side before you do anything.

Some of the Escorts do not have central locking. If the keys open both front doors, the hatch and fit the ignition then I would not worry too much about it. You may find that you also have a hatch release catch at the side of the drivers seat also. I trust this information helps you.
get the bodgy mechanic back ,does it open from passenger side ??if it does then its only a simple repair to fix as the little bar on the back of the door lock has fallen out ,if plastic clip is broke then use a bit of fine wire to lassoo it all together ,it will last for years like this
