'97 Buick Century Overheating Problem

Just recently, my 1997 buick century has been problems with overheating. The temperature gauge inside the car raises up to halfway after about five minutes. I have to keep adding antifreeze because for some reason it drains out. When I turn the car off, you can hear/see the antifreeze leaking out underneath the car. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Thank you.

Alright, thank you. I'll get that done sometime this week. I just want to spend some more money on this car. I replaced the alternator in the last month. Jeez, once one thing gets fixed, something else goes wrong.

Oh, and it also has just over 202,000 miles on it, just in case that changes anything.

It sounds like your car has a bad thermostat that won't open all of the way. However it could have a bad electric cooling fan, fan relay, temperature gauge or fuse!

Snds like you need to be checking for the beginnings of a weak of leaking head gasket. Ensure the fans are operating correctly however, those engines are notorious for their head gasket failures

You might try replacing your radiator cap or if you system is pressurized, you may have to replace the degas bag (fill container). Another problem could be a bad thermostat or an improperly installed thermostat. I forgot to mention, does your engine fan operate? If not, that would also cause your car to overheat.

Have someone pressure test the cooling system - you likely have a head gasket leak

Engine Overheats If replacing the Head Gasket does the thermostat have to be removed duting this repair?

If you are going to the expense of replacing the head gasket, it would be false economy not to also replace the thermostat at the same time.
Particularly if you are attempting to solve a overheating problem.
