is a vtec solenoid valve. it located on your left behind the valve cover . vtec solenoid looks like a round cap. anyway do you have a oil leaks in your car?

On the drivers side under the hood toward the back not to far from the the strut housing.If you have the new one try to match it up by the looks :)

SOURCE: tuoble code p 1444 purge control solenoid valve

The purge control is to allow the engine to **** gas vapors out of the charcoal canister that vents the gas tank. It will be in the engine compartment, and you should be able to see the canister as a cylinder about 4 inches in diameter and maybe 8 inches high. Follow the tubing to a valve that goes to the intake manifold. The valve should shut off at idle, but open at higher speeds. There is also a diagram in the engine compartment that shows where it is.

hi,
I had the same problem, which ended up being a faulty charcoal canister. the canister was causing the purge valve to fail because tiny pieces of charcoal were damaging it. if you remove the purge valve and tap it on a white sheet of paper on a table , if you see tiny black specs then the charcoal canister is faulty.

PO456 Code Replaced gas cap and bad filler neck (rusted). Purge valve has loose components rattling when I tap on it.


It is impossible to answer your question without knowing the YEAR, MAKE, and MODEL of your vehicle.
That being said, on almost all vehicles, the purge valve is an easily-replaceable part. If you are not able to find the EXACT purge valve for your vehicle, find something that will fit in its place (they all work the same).

Causes To cause a P0443, there has to be a problem with the purge control CIRCUIT, not necessarily the valve. Usually they are a unit housing the valve and the solenoid as an assembly. Or it could be comprised of a separate solenoid with vacuum lines to a purge valve. That said, it could be any of the following: Bad purge solenoid (internal short or open) Wiring harness chafing or rubbing another component causing short or open on control circuit Connector worn, broken or shorted due to water intrusion Driver circuit inside powertrain control module (PCM) is bad Possible Solutions 1. Using a scan tool, command the purge solenoid to activate. Listen or feel for a clicking coming from the purge solenoid. It should click once, or on some models it may click repeatedly. 2. If it doesn't click with scan tool activation, unplug the connector and examing the solenoid and connector for damage, water, etc. Then check for battery voltage on the feed wire with the key on. If you have battery voltage, then ground the control side manually using a jumper wire and see if the valve clicks. If it does, then you know the solenoid is working properly but there is a problem with the control circuit. If it doesn't click when you manually ground it, replace the purge solenoid. 3. What is P0443

About the possible solutions
1. Using a scan tool, command the purge solenoid to activate. Listen or feel for a clicking coming from the purge solenoid. It should click once, or on some models it may click repeatedly.

2. If it doesn't click with scan tool activation, unplug the connector and examing the solenoid and connector for damage, water, etc. Then check for battery voltage on the feed wire with the key on. If you have battery voltage, then ground the control side manually using a jumper wire and see if the valve clicks. If it does, then you know the solenoid is working properly but there is a problem with the control circuit. If it doesn't click when you manually ground it, replace the purge solenoid.

3. My 2004 Kia Optima has a code P0443 and I know what it is. There's a hole where air is getting in and I need to know how to find it


Hi, 443 is not a leak--it a purge valve malfunction. Usually the solenoid packs up, but it could be wiring or the connector. You need to disconnect the valve and apply battery voltage to it to see if the solenoid will click. If it clicks, the problem is wiring. If not, replace the purge valve/solenoid. Hi. This code is referring to a malfunctioning Valve circuit, or defective purge solenoid.

The Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP) allows fumes from the gas tank to enter the engine to be burned, rather than vented into the atmosphere as an emission(emission control device). The purge valve solenoid is supplied voltage by the battery, and regulated by a switch. The ECM controls the valve by operating the ground circuit, opening the purge valve at specific times, thus, allowing these gasses to enter the engine. The ECM monitors the ground circuit as well, watching for faults. When the purge solenoid isn't activated, the ECM should see a high voltage on the ground circuit. When the solenoid is activated, the ECM should see the ground voltage registered as a low current, close to zero. If the ECM doesn't see these expected voltages, or senses an open circuit, this code is issued.

SYMPTOMS:

Symptoms could be just a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illumination. There may be no driving issues at all. But, it's also possible to have a lean condition or a rough running engine if the purge valve is stuck open. Usually, the symptoms are accompanied by other EVAP codes. Another symptom may be excessive pressure in the gas tank in the form of a over pressured sound when the cap is removed, indicating a purge valve that isn't working at all or stuck closed.


CAUSES:

1. Bad Solenoid(mechanical failure, or shorted circuit)
2. Shorted control circuit, or bad harness connection
3. Water Damaged connection
4. Bad ECM/PCM


SOLUTIONS:

1. It is possible to use a diagnostics scan CPU to command the purge valve to operate, manually. Listen or feel for a clicking coming from the purge solenoid. It should click once, or on some models it may click repeatedly.

2. If it doesn't click, unplug the connector, and examine the solenoid and connector for damage(water). Check for battery voltage on the feed wire with the key on. If you have battery voltage, then ground the control side manually using a jumper wire and see if the valve clicks. If it does, then you know the solenoid is working properly but there is a problem with the control circuit. If it doesn't click when you manually ground it, replace the purge solenoid. If it dose click, this will confirm that the solenoid is functional, and the ECM/PCM will be the culprit(Damaged control circuit).

Push the gas and the engine wont rev past 2000 rpm. i have a 2002 ford escape 3.0L. i ran a diagnostic n it threw a p0443 code.
