SOURCE: replace front wheel bearings

The bearings in your car are pressed into a hub. If the part is available as an assembly, it can be replaced that way. Generally on a front drive car:
Remove wheels and brake calipers
If it is pressed in: remove the rotors, disconnect the drive shafts and remove the steering knuckle. Then the old bearing is pressed out and the new one pressed in with a machine shop press. If the bearing is part of the hub, that will be unbolted and the new one swapped.

On a scale of 1-10 difficulty, Id rate it a strong 7

How to replace 1991 honda civic front wheel bearing

Using worn parts to replace worn parts is never a good idea, unless you just love working on your car just to tell people you are working on your car! Presses are fairly inexpensive!! And bearings are not that hard to press in and out. I have several cars that I do all the mechanical work myself, so for me a press is waranted and nessasary. Once the first side you do is done the second side takes 1/3 as long to do!

How do I replace the front wheel bearing in a 2001 Honda Civic? What special tools are required?

The Civic is a front wheel drive car: It does not have a bearing on the front wheels. Your car is equipped with a transaxle and drive axles that go into the transaxle. There are two CV (constant velocity) joints on each axle: an inner and an outer joint. If you want to pull the hub off of the drive axle or pull the drive axles, you will have to do a lot of other things first. If you still want the pull the hub, respond and I'll tell you how. It is an involved process and I don't want to waste your time with details that are not necessary.

sorry to tell you this but it sounds like the wheel bearing was put in backwards on one or both sides. the front wheel bearings have a black speed ring built in and that is what your speed sensor reads off. - this is common as the front bearings will install either way- hope this helps

Wheel bearing trouble

This probably is a job you should leave for a good shop. I'm not saying that to discourage you. This style of wheel bearing requires the use of special pullers and installer tools. I have seen many experienced techs screw this job up. Because of the way the bearings are made, they have to be removed off the hub flange and installed in the knuckle with extreme care or the bearing will be damaged. If you do go ahead with this at home, have some very experienced help handy, this is not a job you can do over the internet.
