Question about 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

Goes into 4-wheel drive when it is turned on

Once in awhile when I start my Blazer it seems to be running rough/sluggish. When I look at the dash I see that it has slipped in to 4-wheel drive.

I am the only driver and it just happens. I set it back to normal and it is fine for another few months.

Any thoughts?

It could be a junk switch or it could be bad contacts inside the transfer case motor.. Does the transfer case switch to the selected gears? Everytime? If so, you might try another switch. If it does the same, I would say the motor contacts are bad. Replace the motor if you want the lights, But I personally wouldn't do it until the motor quit switching gears. They're not cheap.

Have a pressure bleed down test run on the fuel pump, that is the most common problem that causes this condition.

My four wheel drive is not working. i replaced the switch on the dash. tried it and all it did when i hit 4-hi both 4-hi and 4-lo blink a few times the it goes back to 2 wheel drive. it did stay in 4-hi...

It's the transfer case motor.I had the same problem exactly and replaced, now it works great. Part is about $100.00 ( aftermarket ) .Ifyou are going to replace yourself you will have to remove front drive shaft and remove yoke from transfer case with an impact wrench for clearance to remove transfer case motor . When you put the new transfer case motor in make sure you line up slot with grove in transfer case motor. Good Luck.

4 wheel drive wont engage

I've seen this problem before, quite awhile back. The vehicle (also a Blazer) was doing the exact same thing. I replaced the transfer case actuator and all was well. Of course, I'm not entirely sure if that's the problem with your Blazer, but it's something you may want to check out. What was happening with my customer's vehicle is that the actuator was actually turning, but it was stripped out. Hence, that's why I could hear a noise at the transfer case like it was working, when it was really just spinning and doing nothing.

I hope this helps! :)

Loss of power and drive but engine is still running

The water bubble under the dash might be a heater core, and the slow and sluggish might be caused by the transmission, try checking the wires and plugs, they may need to be replaced, we just changed out the wires and plugs on ours and it did wonders!
