Question about 1991 Cadillac Allante

Open Question

On my 1991 Allante the convertible top when folding and lowering hits the pull down motor even after adjusting the pull down motor location so what can I do to adjust the top so it will fit in the boot correctly without damaging the rear window rubber seal.

SOURCE: cadillac allante sun visors (2

GM uses bent metal clasps to secure the visor position. If you are mechanically inclined you can buy buy new clips for roughly $10 and install them yourself or do what I would do which is remove what is there is gently bend them back to an oval vs the circular shape they have now. There should be two philips head screws holding the assembly. Remove the two screws (per side) an slide the visor off the mount to reveal the metal clasp. Should you have any questions simply reply back and I will do my best to help.

Allante problems

If the pull down motor hums, then it is effectively functioning but obviously isn't catching the roof hold down mechanism..Behind the driver's seat and under the panel you will find a switch that when you activate will cycle the unit and you release when you it the clicking sound and you have to ensure that you hold the rear of the roof down when it cycle for the proper pull down action...Unfortunately this seems to be a problem of engaging and the car has a history of this issue...I have encountered this everytime and it is a question of the rear being engaged for proper function...
good luck

Taken from answers .com There are several fuse boxes on the Cadillac Allante. I know that, in particular, the 1993 Allante has a fuse box in the trunk, right next to the battery, underneath the ashtray assembly, and then one more in the engine compartment. For the one in the trunk-- lift the trunk. Facing the rear of the car, looking at the back window, move over to the right rear wall of the trunk and flip up the panel there. It is a carpeted panel that is not obvious. Shake that panel a bit and you will see that you can flip it up. I believe it has some Velcro tabs that keep it down. There is a fuse box sitting there inside the shell of the body once you open that flap. You won't miss it. For the one by the battery, which is located within a shelf behind the passenger seat---slide the carpeted shelfing facade towards the passenger's seat.

How can i get bmw 323i convertible top down manualy

If your top is electric then you will need to release the front cowl motors at the center point of the trim in front of the rear view mirror(small access plug needs to be removed and allen key inserted to drive unit.) You also need to pull the release handle under the back seat bottom(driver's side) The release handle detaches the drive units for the storage lid cover and the convertible top drive. Once the motors are released, the front of the top must be lifted approximately 6 inches and the pressure against the rear of the top will relax. raise the rear bow, open the storage lid, lower the rear bow and push the front of the top up and toward the back of the car. The top should fold into the storage area. Once in, close the storage lid until it clicks.

Top worked fine yesterday but today tried to let down only clicked

It is a hydraulic pump that applies pressure to the 2 hydraulic pistons to raise & lower the top. So, check for something obstructing movement first.

The convertible top:
  • is motor-driven.
  • requires parking brake engaged to complete circuit for operation.
  • is equipped with a back window glass (42006) . The back window glass is permanently attached to the folding top back window curtain (52500) and cannot be opened.

1996 saab 900s , cont. top didnt work at all, had "check latches" message. checked the system, pulled it apart and found the motor was installed incorrectly. had motor and position sensor...

You need to hook up the car to the factory tool, and check for codes. I think the lower limit for the main or 5th bow potentiometer needs to be adjusted. lots of service information at www.saabservices.com in the convertible top section

Cannot put top up on 1987 allante the latch is locked in and icannot open the latch on the pull down motor

There's a switch ( kinda same shape, color & operation method as your power seat switches) behind driver's seat near the 2 Boot/Top 'release' pull tabs,, it's mounted on the "roof" of the open compartment area behind the seats. Slide your hand along there til you feel it. It recycles the pull-down motor up & down & should release the top. Also try in the trunck, there's 2 hard plastic strings with loops at end,, pull & see if it releases it.
