SOURCE: Can a bad idler pulley on a 1997 saturn with a 1.9

Sometimes the idler pulley can begin to rattle a bit, the noise is most often associated with the the idle pulley damper mounts. Just a tiny movement here can cause that audible clicking. It does not harm the engine and can usually be heard only at idle so if yo can live with it, great.

I suppose so, should be visible signs if worn badly. Check all the pulleys for wear and straightness-make sure they line up evenly and belt runs true. Have you tried a new belt? If the tensioner is worn, it may not be keeping the belt tight enough.

I have a 09 lancer rallyart and the serpentine belt keeps wanting to slip off any ideas and all the teath lined up right

This is usually caused by a bad idler or tensioner pulley. If the bearing for one of these pulleys goes bad, it can cause the pulley to kick sideways just a little bit, which is often enough to misalign or even throw the belt.

To check, remove the belt and check the idler and tensioner pulleys for free play in the bearing.

Hope this was helpful

Why belt keeps shredding

usually due to a bad bearing, or from resistance due to a frozen or failing assemble, as in power steering, alternator, or an idler. The best way to determine is to remove the belt and check all pulleys for play and resistance.

My serpentine belt is slightly off one of the pullies. The belt is off the grooves a little bit. what does this mean and should i be to concerned?

yes its a big concern as if that belt comes off it will do internal motor damage that is very expensive to fix. First by hand pry the belt over and turn motor over by hand and get the belt back on the grooved pulley. it is possible you have a bad idler pulley or a tensioner pulley. both have bearings in them and they do wear aproximately every 60 to 80 thousand miles but it sure seems like its alot more. those pulleys run about $ 80.00 depending on what tensioner you have and where you buy them from. also replace that belt at this time, since it has sliped or rode in a bad spot it most likely is wore, stretched, or twisted, and you do not want to tear down and fix twice, once is bad enough

Drive pulley spins and slides forward and back to motorwhich in turn throws belt off so what i need to know is how to replace drive pulley or if it is repairable with a lock key

Which pulley are you talking about? Is it the Idler Pulley that applies pressure to the belt? That is typically the pulley that goes bad first which can be replaced. The bearing will go bad and won't stay flat causing the belt to wander. If you get a new pulley or idler assembly replace the belt at the same time for peace of mind.

Engine stalls when put into gear. Idles rough & rich.

IT COULD BE THE POWER STEERING PUMP LOCKING UP AND STALLING THE ENGINE. CHECK TO SEE WHICH ONE OF THE PULLEYS IS NOT MOVING AS FAST AS THE OTHERS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE MOTOR.(WHILE IT'S RUNNING) IT COULD JUST BE AN IDLER PULLEY. I HOPE THIS HELPS TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE BELT FAILURE. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR AN HONEST RATING. GOOD LUCK
