Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Fuel surge I own a 2000 Blazer S10 4.3L. For the past 2 days it seems to be getting a surge of fuel even when my foot is on the brake. The idle shoots up and the car tries to lunge foward. Any ideas why?

That may be your throttle position sensor

Sudden power surge -happens in stop and start traffic. Foot on brake when power surge happens-I had to slam on brakes to prevent read end collosion. Three events in last two weeks.


Just my opinion, I wouldn't drive till you get it looked at, that sounds dangerous.
How long since a tune-up?
Any applicable trouble codes?
Sounds like something is telling the computer to up the idle, at the moment, I don't know why? Are you running the ac when this happens?
Check and clean throttle-body and anything that has to do with idle air system. Also, check the maf sensor, where applicable.

I 2nd the distributor cap. Even generic brands will short out very quickly, use AC Delco brand for that part.

2003 chevy malibu, takes awhile to turn over and start, idle shoots up and down when started, also it stalls when i take turns


How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? With extended crank, you can try cycling the key, on and off, a few times before you crank it. If that helps, have to check fuel system. Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure.
Check and clean the idle air system, see if it helps?

2000 blazer wont start, after 2 days it will start and run for 5 minutes but then it quits and wont start for 2 days


Check your fuel pressure it should be 60-66 psi with key on engine off.If its not within these specs replace the pump.

I have a 2000 chevy blazer with a 4.3 vortec motor,my problem is when i'm cruising at a steady speed the engine surges it usually happens around 45-50 mph

your foot pedal is a hydraulic brake and is used constantly. the brake pads are on the outside of the rotar and in constant motion in and out which wears the seal inside the caliper causing it to leak.as for the emergency brake, it is a mechanical brake inside whats like a small drum on the inside of the rotor (back rotors only) the mechanical parts inside the drum will seize up because they are never used and are exposed to the elements everytime you drive. if you have the emergeny brake serviced and fixed and want to keep it in good working order you would need to start using it more often. as for the fuel presure loss could be another bad fuel pump or a restriction in the lines somewhere. maybe a malfunction fuel presure regulator. hard to say without looking at it

sounds like your distributer rotor is stuck or rusted over. That was the same problem on my dads Jeep. If it's not that then it might be the whole ignition system like plugs, distrubuter cap, wires, or coil. Try that and if it's still not working then try fuel delivery

1990 full size blazer starts fine idles then dies


sounds real easy either a bad idle air control solenoid or more likley a blown throttle body gasket. to test fro a blown gasket, with engine running and cool spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner around base of tb were it bolts to intake. when it hits the bad area, should idle down and be normal for a second or 2. iac is possible,try this first since its so common and let me know
