Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox that is leaking coolant. I have taken it to the shop and told that I need a new water pump. I had the water pump change and it was still leaking. So, I went back and I was told that I had a blown head gasket. Ok, so I had the head gaskets replaced and the engine is still leaking. I have been to several mechanics and no one can seem to indentify the problem. The weirdest part of all is that not that much coolant leaks on the ground, but the resouvir is empty. What's puzzling is where is the coolant going?? Please help I am tried of spending wasting money on this same problem.

SOURCE: 1999 olds alero leaking coolant

problem could be heads bolts . i put new bolts in put a little sealer on them . make sure your bolt holes is clean free from debris. put a lillte sealer on intake gasket on top and bottom where coolants travel. if all was done . drain engine oil in clean container .set it aside. take radiator cap off .you a coolant pressure rise kit .put a pan under oil pan with drain plug still off .pressure your radiator about 10 psi. make sure you have antifreeze in radiator and engine . when you pressure up to 10 psi look under the car if coolant comes out oil pan. you got leaking head gasket. if not .put oil pan plug back on . put oil back in car . check your freeze plugs also.

SOURCE: can a bad intake plenum leak antifreeze into the

I see a lot of lower intake gasket leaks on these but usually you get an external leak or you'll find coolant mixed with the oil, not a misfire. Upper plenum is dry on the 3.1 and just bolts onto the top of the lower intake. We usually apply pressure to the cooling system overnight with the spark plug removed from the misfiring cylinder. If there is coolant in the cylinder come morning then you only have to figure out where it is coming from. If the plenum is removed during the test you might be able to see where the coolant is or isn't coming from with a borescope by looking down the intake runner.

I have a chevy equinox that was over heating and would leak coolent took it to the garage they said it was a water pump and the thermostats they changed them and flushed the tank. Not a week latee it over...

I suspect there was an air pocket in the cooling system, sounds like the garage didn't bleed the system completely, just keep an eye on the coolant level, if it remains constant I would suggest your problem has been resolved. But don't forget, only remove coolant cap when engine is cold. Regards Mike

I am having BIG problems with my 2005 Equinox....Go figure..I bought this vehicle new and have had problems ever since. Replacing sway bar links twice a year...Just had $2500.00 of work done on it last...

sorry to hear about your issues. if it is coolant in the floor board then yes heater core is leaking. if it is leaking you will usually smell a sweet smell when heater on and windows fog up. i think you have a water leak causing floorboards to be wet this is a common problem on these.as far as the brakes if you feel/hear a noise like motor coming on when slowing down almost to a stop it is probably a wheel speed sensor dropping out the abs sees one wheel go to zero and thinks it locked up and activates abs will not set a code because system thinks it is working fine. will need a COMPETENT technician to scan the abs while driving and read the speed sensor data. as far as coolant leak possibly an intake gasket leaking? should be able to have pressure tested and see leak if it is small leak ask them to put dye in coolant and next time low check it with a black light for signs of the leak.hate you had a bad dealership experience but we are not all crooks.

Water pump on 2005 Chevy Equinox

Water pump is locate on the front center of the engine.

I will rate water pump change as a 7/10 in difficulty scale.

You should check for special tool(s) requirement from the library before you start.

It's a good time to change the drive belt at the same time.

50/50 coolant mix is fine.

If you haul heavy load or in cold climate then bump it up to 60/40 mix

DO NOT FORGET to find or draw the belt routing diagram before you undo the tension.

A 30 second sketch will save you a lot of time.
