Question about 1999 Ford Contour

1 Answer

I was going forty miles per hour and started slowing down with my foot still on the gas. I had over a quarter tank of gas and the car was still on but I couldnt give it any gas. Now my car wont start. It tries to turn over but wont. Is there a button that could have turned off the gas? What could be the problem? How do I fix it?

Step inside the car or better yet if you have someone that can help you that would be great.  Have the person sit in the drivers seat and turn the ignition to the on position, do not start it, while you go to the back of the car and listen for a buzzing sound.  if you do not hear it, chances are your fuel pump bit the dust.

After getting gasoline, it increases wrong mileage with camry 2003

One tank of gas is not enough to compare mileage. Or are you saying the computer's readout of mpg estimate is showing less? Try a tank or two of premium and see if that helps. Keep track of gas mileage. Driving techniques have a lot to do with gas mileage, as does long trips vs. short trips, highway cruising vs. city driving. For best mileage, do regular maintenance and keep the car in top running condition-good spark plugs and clean filters and clean oil ! Attend to minor problems before they escalate.
If you want to check actual miles per gallon, start with a full tank. Write the odometer reading down, and go. Everytime you put gas in, write down the amount. When you are close to 1,000 miles from the time you started, go fill the tank and include that amount of gas to your previous list. Now add up all the gas used and divide it into the miles to get miles per gallon. (976 miles/31.8 gallons = 30.69 mpg ) . Only one tank will skew your numbers, might be off cause the tank was filled more to the top than the previous fill-up. About a thousand miles of driving will give you a very accurate figure of miles per gallon for your car.

How many miles do u get for a full tank of gas on a v8

It just depends on your tank size. You probably get about 15 -18 miles per gallon. 13 gallon tank would be around 200 miles. 15 gallon tank around 232 miles.

Start by scanning the engine for any codes it might have. Look at air mixture and fuel trim values. These should point you in a direction to look deeper. Thinks like O2 sensors, Air Flow sensors, etc can all have a effect on mileage.
Also look to see that there is no physical issue. Are the brake calipers binding/sticking? Is the emergency brake working properly and fully disengaging? Are all of the wheel bearings good and moving freely. Almost any of these issues (friction) would result in heat and I think you would have noticed by now.

Absolutely the problem. Timing belts should be changed every 60,000 miles or 6 years.

Gas gauge flys from quarter tank to way past full mark and sticks

This isn't a definite fix, but it may be that the gasoline in your tank is 'sloshing' forwards and backwards and your sensour is getting readings when the gasoline is in different positions in your tank. The connection is actually above your gasoline tank and you'll have to take off the tank harnesses and drop the tank if you want to check to see if the connection became slightly loose, otherwise you can just fill your gas tank and reset your temporary milage gage (that's the little black button near your RPM meter) and remember how many miles you get per tank.
