2005 chevy cavalier gas gauge doesnt work goes into the temp gauge and when i try to put gas in it spills out like it is full.

It sounds like the fuel gauge sender unit is faulty, probably causing a wiring problem with other dash dials. Also sounds like you already full of fuel. The float and sender unit need checking and/or replacing.
(float in fuel tank). The fuel tank needs to be drained completely to do this work. Is it something you can do ? If not, it's not a major operation for a mechanic and the parts are cheap. Good luck... Red.

Fix a stuck gas float

I think you will find you no longer have a carburetor on your vehicle, so you have no carb float.
if you mean the float for the gas gauge, this is in the gas tank. Google procedures and be careful......

1970 chevy nova gas gauge problen

Well friend, you know the dash gage is good cause that was a proper test procedure. Since your not getting proper readings it has to be the sending unit. Pull it apart and clean the rheostat with a pencil eracer and light pressure, the assemble it and try it again. if still nfg, replace the sending unit. they're cheap from any auto parts store.

Need to replace float

You must remove the fuel tank to access the fuel level sending unit. the float is one part of the sending unit. The whole part is called the fuel tank module and is about $200.00 for the part. Do not use a cheap replacement, use a quality part like those made by Carter or Bosch.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am gas gauge problem and fuel leak

Step 1, FIND & FIX THE LEAK, replace the gas cap. Fixing the leak itself sounds like the problem. If it continues after a leak repair is done, there is a float in the gas tank which controls the gauge. that can cause that type of problem too. Fix the leak first.

My gas gauge don't work. how do you fix that problem?

Hi, 1st , of course, check for a blown fuse for your instrument panel.
If your gas gauge is reading empty then it could be that the float in the gas tank has a leak and doesn't float anymore. It has sunk. This will cause a working gauge to show empty all of the time. The float that goes into the gas tank is about 1.5 inches long by about an inch wide. It should be a hollow brass cylinder.
this cylinder attaches to a swinging arm that when it moves in the tank, it shows a different resistance depending on where the float is. In other words the height of the float connected to the arm shows the different reading. Note: if you are going to replace the float, or the fuel tank sending unit, make sure the gasoline tank is as empty as possible.
Photo below of what a float looks like (this is probably not the exact one). You may only be able to purchase a complete "fuel sending unit", which includes the float. Probably the best way to get one is from a junk yard.

Hope this helps,
Happy New Year,

The gauges dont work, i never know how much gas i have

You may have a cracked fuel sender float that is filled with gas, and or a bad ground wire from the sender.

Both cheap to replace no more than 8 bucks for the newer float, check out and LMC for the float.

There is a float in your gas tank that raises up and down. When you fill your car with gas it will move up, when your burning gas it will go down. So if your fuel gauge is stuck then your float in your tank is stuck and you won't know how much gas you have. To fix this you will have to remove the tank to fix the float. Hope this helps.
