The car keeps smoking, everything has been newly redone, engine idle's smooth and there are no cracks on the sleeves or the cylinder head. fitted new valve stem seals, piston rings etc.

I encountered a very similar problem before. Have your carburetor redone. I also spent a lot trying to fix that kind of issue before with the car I'm using (also with ga13ds). I overhauled the carburetor 2 times using repair kits but there are still the same issues and at one time things became even worse. Bring it to a mechanic who works with nissan (not necessarily in the service center) and/or is specializing in carburetors because there are a lot of things that may go wrong inside a carburetor. I brought mine to an expert in Evangelista Makati, Philippines ( well I guess your from the Philippines because I could not find ga13ds from other countries unless I'm wrong) and it only took about two hours without even buying parts, just some elbow grease, smashing, scratching, and some salvaged parts from other carbs- the whole process cost me Php1,800 plus travel expenses. Also, buy a good air filter and make sure that your air cleaner assembly is working properly, these kind o issues are caused by accumulated dirt in the system and it slowly destroys the carb. After having all the repairs done, invest in one aerosol can of carb cleaner and use it on your carb maybe about once a month (I do it that often) it keeps performance as close to optimum as possible and prolongs the carb so it will take a while before it needs to be overhauled again. The MPG however, may not be the same as before. Since it's an old engine and engines tend to consume more fuel proportional to its age (according to my mech engineering undergrad brother), the MPG may be more by a bit and it is also affected by the engine overhaul, because of a lot machining and making things larger by a bit, the engine will increase cc (I think) by an amount that will also affect your MPG.

Blue smoke coming out of the exhaust


start car when engine cold - place some paper in front of exhaust pipe.
If you see dots of oil you have a major engine failure with the lower block of your engine or the rings. This costs a lot of money to fix !
I sent my car to wreckers to be crushed when I had smoke and burning oil smell plus oil when it was cold.

If it is water when engine when engine cold you may have a cracked engine head , cracked head or blown head gasket.
Less expensive to fix but may require head to be re machined if head is warped. If head is cracked then head will need welding.
A cylinder compression test will confirm this type of head problem.

Yes this is correct, you can get important information from the colour of smoke from the exhaust:

Blue/Gray Smoke: Blue/gray exhaust smoke is an indication of oil burning in the combustion chamber. These are possible symptoms and causes:
Valve Seals: Leaking valve seals will cause blue/gray smoke at startup because oil leaks past the seals into the cylinder after the engine shuts down.
Valve Guides: Excessive clearance between the valve stem and the valve guide allows oil to leak past the gap into the cylinder.
Piston Rings: Worn or damaged piston rings will cause blow-by resulting in blue/gray smoke.
Worn Cylinder Walls: Worn cylinder walls cause blow-by resulting in blue/gray smoke.
PCV System: A stuck closed PCV valve will cause excessive crankcase pressure resulting in blue/gray smoke.
Black Smoke: Black exhaust smoke is an indication of a rich fuel condition. These are possible causes:
Fuel Injectors: A leaking or dripping fuel injector will cause a rich fuel condition.
Fuel Pressure Regulator: A stuck closed fuel pressure regulator will cause a rich fuel condition.
Fuel Return: A restricted fuel return line will cause a rich fuel condition.
White/Gray Smoke: White exhaust smoke is an indication that coolant is burning in the combustion chamber. These are possible causes:

Engine smokes when I let up on accelerator


when you let up on the accelerator the vacuum in the manifold reaches 20 inches of vacuum or more. If the valve stem seals are worn/hard or cracked this high vacuum draws air and oil from the head down into the combustion chambers and this is blue smoke out the back It is the same as if you let the engine idle for several minutes and then rev it up and you get blue smoke out the back. It is also possible that if the rings are worn you may get the same affect. I would go for valve stem seals or worn valve guides.

Clogged PCV Valve
The main purpose of the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve is to recirculate blow-by gases back from the crankcase area through the engine to consume unburned hydrocarbons. Blow by is a mixture of air, gasoline and combustion gases forced past the rings on the combustion stroke. The PCV system usually has a tube leading from the crankcase to the carburetor or intake manifold. Vacuum within the engine intake manifold pulls blow by gases out of the crankcase into the combustion chamber along with the regular intake of air and fuel.
Worn Piston Ring Grooves
For piston rings to form a good seal, the sides of the ring grooves must be true and flat - not flared or shouldered - and the rings must have the correct side clearance in the grooves. Normally, automotive ring groove side clearance should not exceed .002-.004. As the pistons move up and down, the rings must seat on the sides of the grooves in very much the same way that valves must seat to prevent leakage. New rings in tapered or irregular grooves will not seal properly and, consequently, oil will pass around behind the rings into the combustion chamber. Worn grooves are usually flared or tapered causing increased side clearances which permit more than the normal amount of oil to pass the rings into the combustion chamber. Excessive side clearances also create a pounding effect by the rings on the sides of the piston grooves. This promotes piston groove wear and, if the condition is not corrected, breakage of rings lands may occur.
Cracked or Broken Ring Lands
Cracked or broken ring lands prevent the rings from seating completely on their sides and cause oil pumping by a process similar to that described in #7. In addition to this, they also lead to serious damage to the cylinders as well as complete destruction of the pistons and rings. Cracked or broken ring lands cannot be corrected by any means other than piston replacement and this should be done as soon as there is the slightest indication of a crack.
Worn Valve Stems and Guides
When wear has taken place on valve stems and valve guides, the vacuum in the intake manifold will draw oil and oil vapor between the intake valve stems and guides, into the intake manifold and then into the cylinder where it will be burned. If this condition is not corrected when new piston rings are installed, an engine is likely to use more oil than it did before because the new piston rings will increase the vacuum in the intake manifold. When gum or deposits on the valve stems are removed - a procedure recommended when overhauling an engine - the seal previously formed will be removed and leakage will be more pronounced. This is particularly true on overhead valve engines where loss of oil may occur on the exhaust valves as well as on the intake valves. High oil consumption caused by too much valve guide clearance can frequently be cured by reaming or nerraling the valve stem. In some cases new valves may also be required. Use of a permanently bonded valve stem seal will give added insurance against oil leakage on complete engine overhauls or on valve jobs. Large Oil Leaks Leaking valve cover gaskets, leaking crankshaft front and rear seals.

Yes there are other things, like piston rings. I suggest a leak down test to determine where the issue actually lies. If the stem seals are toast, usually the valve guides also are too loose. Stem seal change is short term repair.
