First I suggest you remove any other keys & rings. Perhaps the wrong key was pushed in the first place and is jammed!
second, spray wd-40 into the tumbler area let soak overnight.
third, the tumblers are spring loaded, take a pair of vice grip pliers and clamp the key blank head that is exposed firmly. Try and jiggle up/down while trying to pull straight out.
Failling that, the ignition core will probably best be removed & replaced.

My daughter has had similar trouble with her hyundai, it ended up being the security module at fault with the passive key not communicating with each other, she had to get a new fob and module and reprogrammed, the temporary fix to it was to press the button 3 times with the ignition on then try and start it again, didn't always work but most times it did, hope this helps, happy holidays.

Cannot turn key in ignition to start car even after checking transmission and even rocking the car to make sure it is in park.

put key in ignition. tap back side of key with hamer or screwdriver etc towards the ignition. like youre trying to tap it further into ignition. not extremely hard but hard enough and it will turn. I promise you, it wil turn and start car, no problem. Marc

My 2000 nissan alitma will not start. Battery is good but just clicks when I turn the key. I am 22 and don't have a clue about cars! Help

Hi

If the battery is good and the battery connections are conected correctly then the only thing it can be is the starter motor. the clicking noise is the selinoid jamming.

If the car is manual transmission remove the keys from the car put it in second gear and push it forward until you feel the car jump a little, this will turn the engine over without it running and will free up the jamming starter.

If it is an auto then locate the starter motor and hit it with a hammer a few times this again will free it up, although it may jam again in the future. if you are not sure where the starter motor is get someone to try start it while you look where the noise is coming from.

Hope this helps.

It may just be through lack of use or cold weather so do not replace it just yet.

Regards
Dan

Can removing the battery terminals with the key still in the ignition be responsible for damaging the wiring system of my VRG6 golf? This has lead to damage of the coil to the spark plugs.

In a word.....NO
My daughter has a Jetta..... electrical problems are common in these cars.... remove the key, let the car sit for an hour with the battery disconnected.... connect the battery, turn the key to the run position but DON'T start the engine...... let it sit like that for about 2 minutes.... if there are no issues with the car, is should start right up and run fine after that

Remove ignition barrel covers and as your wiggling the key knock the ignition barrel with appropriate tool to try and loosen whats jammed Either way have to take covers off to remove barrel and replace.
