When its misfiring a lot it depends what you did to it if you did a tune up if you did and check your firing order.

What is a misfire on engine control system?

The computer will set a misfire code when it sees a lag in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor. If the crank's rotational speed suffers a power loss from a cylinder not putting out as much power as the others, the computer will set the misfire code for that cylinder, or if it cannot determine which cylinder is not producing the expected power, it will set the code for a random misfire.

Troubleshooting misfire codes generally involves checking gas, spark, and compression. One of those, or the lack of it, is usually responsible for misfires.

Troubleshooting a rough idle

Have the engine computer scanned for trouble codes. Misfires are from loss of fuel, spark, or compression. Check the fuel pressure, check that all spark plugs are getting spark, and if all good so far, test engine compression. Low compression in a cylinder will cause misfires and loss of power.

It could also be a vacuum leak- a loose or cracked vacuum hose or an intake gasket leak.

Would a naked wire going to starter cause a misfire and loss of power?

not unless it is touching something it shouldn't be. If you have misfire / loss of power first thing to check is spark plugs and wires.
