This is as simple as adjusting the selector linkage, ensure that once it is done that there is a locking nut or lock thread preventing it becoming loose again. Good luck.

Shifted into second gear, heard a popping noise, now the car wont stay in 1st, 3rd, or 5th, nor reverse, it will drive in second, and fourth, but you have to hold the shifter down as hard as you can, and...

The pin on the shifter pops loose. REPLACE THE PIN!!!! The dealer just clipped it back on and it did it on mine bunches of times - til they replaced the pin. (Don't know about the popping sound, it just let go on mine, with the same exact affect).

When driving normal, pops out of gear; put back in gear go a little farther, pops out again.

Does that only happen when you accelerate or decelerate? If so then this could be happening because the pilot bearing is worn out, or the synchronizer keys are no longer holding.

Need to repair manual transmission gears or rear end gears? My 97 S-10 pickup broke down after a hundred mile trip. I was driving on a hill and shifted into 3rd gear but when I pressed the gas it didnt...

If the trucks moves in 1st gear it wouldn't be the rear end. In a manual transmission 2nd and 3rd are on the same shaft. If you are mechanically inclined or have a good friend that is go on-line to faxonautoliterature. Follow the instructions on the home page and for between $25 and $40 you can pick up a GM service manual for your transmission that will help you repair your transmission in stead of replace. They also list a service manual for the complete truck for $129 if you want. Hope this helps.
