Question about 2000 Chevrolet Venture

1 Answer

Ignition won't turn.

The ignition won't turn and when the key is out of the ignition, it keeps dinging like the key is in. I tried giving it a jump. That did not work. The lights turn on.

I tried to turn the key, It did not move. When I then took the key out it is making the dinging sound, the one to remind you to take your key out, when drivers door is open.

U WILL NEED TO TRY LUBING THE LOCK CYLINDER 1ST WITH POWDERED GRAPHITE LOCK CYLINDER LUBE FROM ANY HARDWARE STORE, IF THAT DOESN'T DO IT U WILL NEED THE LOCK REPLACED. NEVER USE ANY TYPE OF OIL IN A LOCK CYLINDER.

2001 s10 will jump start. After it sits, I try to start it, it won't start, but the ignition keeps dinging after I turn it off and take the key out. I can jump start it and the dinging stops.

its sounds like a bad ignition switch-try to jiggle it and see if its stop after you have turned key off- also those dinging sounds are to warn you that you have left something on -usually headlights or maybe even your dome lights which would account for your battery dying

I would say the switch is what you talking about
replacing,not the key cylinder

It's probably your ignition not being exactly disconnected when you remove the key.Until you get a new ignition (keyswitch),just jiggle the switch with your fingers after you remove the ke7y and see if the dinging stops. my Aerostar has that problem right now. don-ohio

On my 06 equinox, I've turned off the car but my running lights stay on and the "ding ding" as if the key is in the ignition goes off. I've checked all switches and the car is off, the keys are...

Apparently the computer "thinks" that the key is in the ignition. This can be verified by scanning the body controller data while it is doing this. You will most likely end up having to replace your ignition switch to fix it. Also, if the ignition switch is replaced, the computer will have to be reprogrammed to accept the new ignition switch. Otherwise, you will have problems with your security system and the car will not start.

My Spare Key Won't Start My Car

ok well here's the thing. This key has not been used before. The keys are cut to the specs of the ignition so they may be undercut so to speak. I know on my car i can turn it upside down it will work. But on the other hand it could just possibly be a back up for when you lock your keys in your car (not likely but it's still possible). You can keep putting your key in and out a bunch of times and **** the steering wheel back and forth as you turn the key to get it used to the ignition switch. See if that works and if not i will see what i can come up with in the meantime for this exact car.
