Was the back brake a disc or a drum? If its a drum u have to adjust it by opening a little hole with a rubber cap behind the brake drum try use of a brake tool if u got alot of extra money to spend or a flat screw driver will do if its a disc most of the time the adjuster is behind the hand brake lever u can tighten the nut that pulls the cable

How many clicks should youe ebrake have and how do you adjust/tighten


E-Brake tension should be adjusted not by clicks but how high the the ebrake sits. Handle or peddle should go down about 2/3 of the way to a full locked tire. any more than this and you are taking a chance with running out of tension, any less than this and you stand the chance of brake drag, which wears out your brake shoes. Some n-Bodies(grand Am) have a 17 MM nut on the cable by the rear axle tube. Others have rear disc/drum combinations and need to be adjusted inside the drum brake assembly.

Hello, There are really two things to do. There is an equalizer adjustment in the rearward part of the cable to make both rear wheels operate evenly. Put on the Ebrake lightly and see if both rear brakes are applying even pressure. Adjust until they are balanced.

Then push down fully on the Ebrake lever until tight, then push down, repeat and the Ebrake reel under the dash will draw in the extra slack.

Need to fix emergency brake in my '85 fiero. How does one go about doing such things.


I'm assuming the issue is that it will not pull tight enough to hold the car.

If my assumption is correct, you will find a steel cable at the rear of the car running left to right to the back of the brakes, there is an adjustment nut that you can tighten to take up the slack. Be sure to not over tighten so that the rear brakes are rubbing even when the ebrake is not pulled.

Parking brake not working


you will need to remove the wheels and drums check ebrake cables and brake shoes, make sure the arms are connected and not frozen and also brakes are adjusted correctly,most times its a bad cable or frozen hardware to the ebrake. hope this helps.

first try starting car up, and put into rev. try backing up, in most cases this will release the ebrake.. if not try jacking car up, and pull on the ebrake cable with your hand, this should release the ebrake..good luck keith...

Daytime running lights


pull the ebrake just enought so that it clicks once but doesn't effect the actual driving. I don't know about your car but if I engage the ebrake just the slightest amount on my old mazda you'll see the ebrake light come on and the running lights go off but it doesn't actually impede the car at all because it's not tight enough to grab the disks.

Side lights work, beams work but normal head lights do not work at all. have checked all bulbs and they are fine. fuses are fine as well


Have you tried the actual wire connection there could be an interruption there, if you happen to have a multimeter then touch it to the ground (black wire) and each of the other ones in turn.

Also check that your ebrake is'nt stuck because if you have the ebrake on even the slightest bit then it will keep the running lights from being on. I know because I use it sometimes to play with the lighting effects.
Easiest way to make sure is to pull the ebrake with the car on and see if the ebrake lights up on the dash. if it doesn't then the dash light is just burnt and try the running lights holding the ebrake pressed as close to off as possible. if that doesnt do anything the line might have to be loosened to turn it off.
