Question about 1997 Ford Econoline

I have a 97 ford E150 5.4L, when I'm pulling a hill the air shifts from the vent to the floor. I've had it in a shop, and they replaced the mode switch, but it still cuts out on hills. Some da

When the air cuts out, I can hear the directional door changing positions. The mechanic added an extra vacuum canister on it, but problem still remains.

I removed the battery and box, and checked the lines. I traced the line back to engine, to the vacuum canister, and to control head. I found no leaks, or breaks in the lines. I did however find the line to the canister was plugged on wrong side of check valve, and switched it to the side that the line was on going inside the van, and switched it to the side that the canister was plugged to. My problem was solved, but still at times when going down the road, I can hear the mode valve moving, and shutting some, but the air stayed steady either way. One thing that concerns me though is that before when I first got it out of the shop, it was working correct. The weather was cool then, a few days later when the temp was in the 80's, it started back giving me problems like before. Today the weather has been in the high 50's, and after switching the lines on the check valve, I put it all back together, it is working right now. Do you think the weather had an effect on it, or it was just coincidental??

Sounds like you have a supply vacuum problem. When you lose supply vacuum to the control head it defaults to defrost.

SOURCE: Vent control

You have a vacuum leak.Defrost is the default postion(no vacuum).
See if you can locate the small black vacuum line that goes inside the vehicle on the passenger side near the heater core. The trace it back, should see it going to a canister then to the intake manifold.Make sure it is not disconnected or broken somewhere.

SOURCE: ac vent problem

the vacuum canister is located under the battery tray on this model truck, however the most common problem are the vacuum lines that run around the battery box. usually the battry will leak acid at some point in time and create holes in the small hard plastic lines. i would remove the battery and check the vacuum lines first.

Car doesn't kick down gear going up hills

The modern A/T has 4shift methods.
Foot (passing) called detent TV kick down cable.
the shift lever.
the Vacuum modulator (load, = hills)
and tail shaft RPM (speed)
so seems like the MOD on the A/T is bad.

My 97 Saturn SL2 won't go past 30 mph. Even with

I guess my first question would be - are you saying it is slipping in 3rd gear ? If you push the gas pedal to the floor it should downshift into a lower gear.
If it is slipping, or not upshifting into 3rd gear, I'm afraid chances are the transmission is toast.
You can take it to a couple of shops for estimates but they will probably want to pull the pan and take a look inside.

The ac on my 1998 ford ranger only blows out the defrost vent and floor vent. How do I fix it?

Almost sounds like the actuators are inop. depending on which style you have, some are electrical motors and some are vacuum. These control the mode doors which move to deflect air to various vents.

1999 tahoe wont blow air out dash vents

my issue at the moment is that the linkage (control arms) have come apart. it looks like there's a part missing from between the two control arms. there's a small electric motor with one arm and another arm that controls a flap somewhere that shifts the air flow between floor and up top. both of these control arms have a square hole in the ends and i don't see a way for them to be reconnected. so i'm assuming that there's a part missing.

My air condition changers when you pull up hill it changer from the lower vents to the defrost vent

You don't indicate what year or model Ford you have but it sounds like you have a vacuum controlled system. When you climb a hill engine vacuum drops and the HVAC defaults to the defroster vents. If your system has a vacuum reservoir it may be leaking. If it doesn't you can add one. Older Fords used a metal can about the size of a quart. Older GM cars used a round plastic one. You might be able to find a used on. They are easy to install. Just cut the vacuum line going to the HVAC system. Install a "T". Connect the 3rd nipple on the "T" to the reservoir and you should be good to go.
