Question about Mitsubishi Diamante

1 Answer

We have a early 2004 Dodge 3500 with automatic transmission 4Wd diesel. Three times in the last few weeks I put on the brake while going uner 30mph and the truck started to vibrate real bad. It felt like the anti locking brakes were cycling on and off. If felt like the truck was not going to stop. We finally got stopped and then pulled over and everything was working fine. Scared the hell out of us. Any idea what can be causing this? The brake fluid was low the first time and I filled the reservoir to the proper level but it happend 2 more times.

Had the front pads replaced and the rotors turned (.005). Same problem

I failed to mention that I had BD Power wxhaust brake installed last December and now think that the problem is with the exhaust brake portion in the torque converter. Will try to duplicate the situation with the exhaust brake turned off and see.

    Thanks for trying,

This vibration is caused in most cases by out of true or round front disc brake rotors, you will need to replace or have them machined if possible and install new pads, don't use cheap pads, Rabestos or Wagner brands are the industries leaders, get factory OEM style pads, the cost is within reason, the rotors can be turned by any shop for about $25 US per rotor.

04 ram will not shift past 35 mph

it may not be a transmission problem. have you checked for fault codes to make sure it is not in limp mode? limp mode keeps vehicle from accelerating properly because the ECM has put the system at a limited setting to keep the engine running but not to its full potential.

ABS and brake light on

When the abs light appears, the brakes reset to regular brakes, with out the anti lock,If for sure the brake liners are good, and the rotors, then it is a bad sensor on one of the wheels,a scanner has to be hooked up to find the correct sensor,on witch wheel is the problem.

Can i change my automatic transmission to a standard transmission in my early model 2004 dodge ram 2500 diesel

The short answer is no

the list of replacement parts would most likely exceed $8000, trans, trans control module, engine control modules, complete engine & trans wiring harness, trans, modifacation to the firewall, complete pedal assemblies, and the complete engines were different if look at the specs at dodge.com

drain transmission fluid, and flush with a product designed for this. Refill with specified fluid and this should solve the problem that you are experiencing. I have a 1998 truck that was doing the same thing and this solved my problem.

I would take it to the transmission shop & have it tested. My neighbor had the same problem with his 03 last month and we had to end up rebuidling it. Trans shop here retail price is about 2800, parts for good rebuild cost 5-600 depending which torque converter you get, & if you have yours rebuilt, get the good one. Rick
