What is the cost of replacing a Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999 4.0 L straight 6 automatic

Problem started with blowing a radiator and the coolant and tranny fluid mixed. I replaced the radiator, hoses, gaskets, etc and flushed the radiator and transmission several times. Gave it a test run and it ran fine. Drove to work Monday and when leaving the parking lot, the transmission started slipping in every automatic gear until the engine started overheating. I took to my local mechanic and he said that he thinks the head gasket is blown and exhaust is leaking into the radiator......but I dont understand why my transmission is slipping.

SOURCE: 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee overheated

You probably messed up a rod or caused piston damage your going to need more than a head gasket usauly when you over heat a car you causing the pistonts to expand more then they need to causing scouring and exsisive piston ware by the sound of it and the year your better off replacing the whole motor or completely rebuilding the old one wich will cost more then a use motor! good luck!

How to replace a radiator

Hi Raymond:
This is a pretty straightforward exercise.
Start with the engine COLD.
Remove radiator cap
Drain coolant - don't pollute - capture the fluid.
Disconnect hoses
Remove shrouds
Disconnect transmission coolant piping.
Unbolt radiator
Lift out
Take new radiator and reverse procedure.

What causes water blow back in 1999 4.7 grand cherokee after starting

Sound like a head gasket is leaking. The coolant is leaking from the water jacket through the failed gasket in to the engine crankcase. The "blow back" is caused by the combustion inside the cylinder to leak into the water jacket, pressurizing it.
Drain the oil immediately and do not attempt to run the engine until you have the gasket replaced. Water in the oil will destroy the engine beyond repair.

My 04 jeep grand cherokee is smoking from the radiator. the radiator fan doesn't appear to be running. i've had to put more and more coolant in the resivior because it keeps going right through it...

well, probably needs radiator replaced, burning off fluid smoking problem?if not going out exhaust or in oil, have radiator checked-replaced,if fan not running check relay and fuses, might need fan replaced,if you overheat engine to bad you will blow head gaskets and this is costly.check your oil,see if gray and milky,if so blown head gasket and water-antifreeze in oil,if going out exhaust will be blown head gasket inbetween the cylinders, fix radiator and fan first, but check out to see where all fluid is going.
