Question about 1992 Mitsubishi Galant

Smell of gasoline

After driving the car I can smell gasoline when I go out. What could be the problem? Is there a leak or something? Can this be the cause why my galant consumes too much gas like 5km per liter. thanks

You have a bad fuel injector. lift the rail with injectors on and carfully turn ignition on. you should see one or more of them pumping too much fuel.

What causes a car run forcefully and smell like gasoline

Some older cars have steel fuel lines that rust out. They're very expensive to replace and its dangerous to run the car that's leaking fuel on the underside.

Hesitating and knocking after replacing o2 sensor/ STRONG SMELL OF GAS FUMES

Strong smell of gasoline fumes means that there may be other issues involved than the O2 Sensor.
If it is enough of a smell that you believe gasoline is leaking in the engine compartment, I would not drive the car. The catalytic converter goes up to over a thousand degrees under the car after it is stopped. If vapors accumulate in that area. You could have a fire. NOT SAFE !!.
I would have the car towed to the nearest reliable service facility if you suspect a leak.
If you are working on the car yourself. Open the hood, pull the air cleaner and look for leaks in the fuel injection system. Along the fuel rails and where the injectors go into the manifold.
If it is just flooded then that could have something to do with the O2 Sensors. Please, use caution.
Hope this helps,
Mark

I am smell gas inside the vehicle, comes thru the vents i think. is this my fuel pump or fuel filter or something else

You likely have a leak in the line somewhere and the fumes are getting into the car through the vents. I would not drive the vehicle very far before having it throroughly checked out by a technician trained to repair gas linesa and leaks.

Did you note any gasoline on the ground when you stop the car? I would not play around with this problem for long as gasoline is extremely volatile and flammable.

Gasoline smell when the cars is stopped at a stop

Sounds like a fuel leak from the fuel rail check the rail and the pipe that feeds it.You have a leak buddy and when your driving the smell gets blown away.

91 Maxima Gasoline odor when I first start the car

If it is running fine, the busted bolt isn't the source of the gasoline smell. The intake manifold has vacuum, so the smell wouldn't be getting out, air would be going in, and a vacuum leak would give you poor idling. The exhaust manifold wouldn't have much raw gasoline smell. But it would have loud noise if the broken bolt were causing an exhaust leak.

Check that the vapor recovery line is not broken or disconnected. The hose connectors get cracked. If that were broken, it would cause a gasoline smell after the car has been sitting, especially if it has been sitting in the sun, heat driving gasoline vapor out of the tank. It is supposed to condense in the vapor canister, but some escapes if the line is broken. If it is broken, driving would **** out the gasoline from the line and the wind would dissipate the smell.

Or it could be a leaking injector. With the injector cover off, engine idling and cool, you can visually look for raw gas around the injectors and injector rail connections.

Hope this helps.

Smells like gasoline in car when it's in idol

Check entire fuel system for leaks 99% of time wen you smell GAS.... there is a leak. So be very careful. Gasoline leaks can be very dangerous. If you had a tune up lately or changed a fuel filter that can be your problem because they are metal line then can be left loose accidentally. Check all fuel lines from fuel thank towards the engine compartment and you should be able to locate source of the smell. Good Luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA

Gasoline smell off and on

Have them check EGR tubes, and any hoses, or tubes running to the exhaust. My guess is ones leaking while driving & getting drawn up into the incoming air at the cowl.
