Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

In the past 15months I have have replaced my battery and had to have computer in car reset because of the battery going completely dead (thats what I was told) I have had 2 tune-ups, replaced the o2 Sensors, bank 1 & 2 sensors replaced (is this same as o2 sensors) and replaced mass airflow sensor and have regular oil changes but my 2000 6cyl. Galant runs horrible. My car stalls all the time when idle and after pumping gas, no matter if tank is 1/2 full or on E, I have difficulty getting my car started. It stalls several times before I can keep it going. It stalls when sitting idle in traffic. Help! I am putting too much money in this car that I really do like otherwise. When it runs properly, I love my car.

I have asked about that before, and will ask again. I have also called Mitsubishi for help as well. No answer yet. I have been told by my dealership that without the check engine lite on and without being able to get a reading from their machine, it is almost impossible to diagnose.

No mention of the fuel pump. Was this checked? This sounds like a fuel pump problem. Have a technichian check this out when you go in next time I am certain this is your problem.

hi with mitsubishis ,after the battery is disconnected the base idle resets, when reconnected often stalling occurs, the throttle body will have heaps of **** in it.Clean it out by spraying carb clean onto a rag and wipe it out thorouhly, dont just spray it into the throttle as the carb clean can damage the in sides of the stepper motor, try this .

I have mazzerati quatro pro. I have replaced batteries. after that the engine starts but the car is not moving

Were the batteries you change completely dead or not? If they were dead, means that the ECU of your Gear box lost memories and need to get reset. Ask an expert and qualified garage fo it.

Battery was dead this morning.then jumped it off.gmc 2002 denalli 6.0 then said reduced engine power on message center

Dead batteries can cause all kinds of goofy things to happen. Computer systems do not like it much when they get starved for power and can set all kinds of codes that may make the the thing operate in reduced power mode. This simply means that the computer is limiting engine RPM because of some problem that it "thinks" it has. Again, low power makes computers delirious....they can think all kinds of false things. The fix would be to make sure your battery and charging system is in good operating condition. (Did the battery go dead for obvious reasons like lights left on? or is it worn out and needs to be replaced?) Once the battery and charging system has received a clean bill of health, you may need to reset all of your computer memories - you may have to reset ALL modules. i.e.airbag, body control, antilock brake, air suspension, etc.

Left key in ignition, maybe on auxiliary notch with radio mute on. 5 days later, won't start, appears to have a dead, and I mean dead battery. Will trickle charger bring it back to life? Options seem to be...

If the battery is completely dead you should buy a new one. Batteries get damaged when they completely discharge. Just put in the new one and start. You might have the emission light go on after a start from a dead battery. Reset it yourself with an OBDII tool or your dealer can reset it. You can drive there at least on your own this way.

It is typical after diconnecting the battery/ dead battery, most of the time it takes about 10 miles for the computer to reprogram, or the prom is not reading at the computer, go to a shop and this can be replaced without replacing the complete computer

This just means that the OBD was reset recently and the car hasnt been driven enough for readings to be given by the OBDII. Just drive the car a while, and then all should be READY. After any OBDII reset, the car must go through a certain number of "Drive Cycles" before the OBDII will emit any readings. Refer to the manufacturer to find out exactly how many, and how to complete them.

Battery cell is dead in my rx 300 lexus 2001 .

Are Lexus' known for the computer resetting when replacing the battery? If your really worried that the computer will reset... OK, hold on. First let me say that I don't think the computer is going to reset although I have heard of a few instances where "prolonged" time without any power to the computer will cause it to have to be re-initialized by a dealership technician. I give you my advice with great caution. Please, if you do not feel completely confident doing this, then please don't. Here it goes: Use jumper cables to connect your Lexus battery terminals to another vehicles battery. Carefully remove your old battery being careful not to let the positive terminal contact anything conductive, maybe rap it in a plastic bag and duct tape or something. When you install the new battery, connect the negative terminal before the positive. Good luck and please be careful. If you are a smoker, never smoke near an automobile battery... they have been known to explode.
