Hello

Wrenches usually is a maintenance reminder , as it will show KM or miles beside it .

It could be reset by DAS system after required maintenance is done

While driving tonight a wrench is showing on my dash. Could you tell me what this means? Thank you

Yes it is a "service soon" light. It means something is wrong or up. You should have it checked at the dealer or an auto repair shop. :-) If the mileage is around 50,000 or 100,000 miles, the service light will likely come on. I think all cars do this. I think the dealers or the auto repair place can turn it off.

The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled . Your vehicle is a rolling computer .The instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside , there is also a body computer ( SJB ) smart junction box , Engine computer etc... they all communicate on a serial data network , C.A.N - controller area network . It's hard to know what's wrong when you don't know how it works . There could be codes stored in the computers , these will not always turn on the check engine light .

Change a starteer on a 1999 ford taurus

Disconnect the cable from the negative post on the battery. Use a floor jack to raise the car up and use jack stands to support the car. Remove the starter cable and the electrical solenoid motor connector from the starter solenoid.
Step 2
Use a wrench to remove the bolts from lower and upper starter motor mounts. Take the protective cap from the starter motor terminal. Press the retaining tab of the starter motor solenoid terminal connector and pull to remove it. Use a wrench to take off the nut holding the battery cable and take the battery cable off the starter. Usually, these are 1/2 or 7/16th.
Step 3
Take the two retaining starter bolts off, then take the starter out of the bell housing and out of the vehicle. Check the flex plate for damages before putting the new starter on.
Step 4
Place the starter in position and use your fingers to tighten the bolts. Use a wrench to tighten the lower and upper mounting bolts to 16 to 21 foot per pound. Put the starter battery cable back on and use a wrench to tighten the nut to 80 to 123 inch per pound.
Step 5
Put the starter motor connector back on. Push straight on the connector until it clicks, to make sure it's locked in place.
