Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

My 1.9tdi seat Ibiza won't start. Some morning I ca go to my car and turn the key wait till glow plug light gose out and it'll start. And other mornings go to it turn the key and glow plug light is flashing. If I leave the key on and pop the bonet you can hear a clicking coming from the top of the fuel pump. Some days when it starts I can drive all day and stop it for five mins come to start it again and the glow plugs flashing. I've put a new battery on it, a new 109 relay and glow plugs. That seemed to work for about 8 weeks. Can any body help please.

What is spring sign showing on dash of seat Ibiza sport 1.6

hi Marc

SEAT Ibiza glow plugs heating warning light - your SEAT Ibiza is equipped with an automatic glow plug system. The indicator lamp lights up while the glow plugs are preheating. If the engine fails to start immediately, the glow plugs have not finished preheating. In this case, keep the clutch pedal depressed (or keep your foot on the brake if your vehicle has an automatic gearbox) until the engine starts. (applies to diesel cars only)

Seat ibiza 1.4 tdi reference sport 2007 glow plug light flashing on dash. what could be wrong with it.

Sometimes if you don't wait until light goes off before cranking it will cause a flash code...Disconnect battery to reset system..If it comes back on replace glow plugs...Best idea is have a Tech diagnose it if the reset test doesn't solve your problem...Save time and headaches....

Had 04 transit connect for 6 weeks. always started fine till week ago when turned cold. glow plug light only shows for about 1 second, replaced glow plugs but still the same. can only start every morning...

Sounds like the timer is bad. Since you have power when warm, the power relay must be giving the timer juice. The way it is suppose to work is you wait until the glow plug light goes out and then try to start. In cold weather it should take longer for the glow plug light to go out.

If i let my 7.3 ford diesil set 4 or 5 hour it hard to start again

A diesel uses glow plugs to fire the fuel when it is first started. If one glow plug quits working the glow plug controler shortens the time that the rest are on. If two its even shorter. If the wait to start light goes off sooner than it used to check the glow plugs.
Glow plugs can be checked easy with a test light.
Unplug a glow plug. (located on the head by the injector).
Just hook up a test light to battery positive (+) and touch the other end to the glow plug connector. If the light lights that one is o.k. Check all 8. Replace any that dont work.
If the glow plug system is working then check for fuel leaks. If fuel can leak out than air can get sucked in the fuel system and cause a hard start.
There is also a transfer pump on the frame rail under the drivers seat. This can be a issue if it fails.
When the key is first turned on this pump will come on and prime the system. You can hear it if you get close to it.
I hope this helps you. Re-post if you need more info.

i think glow plug replacement needed. ever used starting fluid in cold to start?try this, next time no start, cycle your key and let the light come on, wait till it goes off, turn key again until light goes off, if you have to do this more than 3 times, and it runs fine, replace the glow plugs only then. thank you for choosing fixya.com!

My car will not start on a morning

if your mercedes is a diesel, your glow plugs are bad if it's not starting on cold mornings. either replace them or try cycling the key over 5 times, each time waiting for the wait to start light goes off, but that won't last forever. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

Wait to start light doesn't come on on my 1999 ram diesel it starsts a little hard on cold mornings

The Cummins does not have glow plugs as mentioned above. It has intake heaters. I have a 99 also and it is a cold natured girl on a cold morning. You should have a block heater to plug in when it is below 40 F. The electric plug should be on the passenger side just inside grill on the hood. You can plug it in all night or a couple of hours before you are ready to go and it should help. Also, since your wait to start light is not working, the intake heaters may not be working. Check them out.
