Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

I have a 2000 beetle hit a rock in the road so big it damaged exhaust converter. Car ran a few seconds and stalled. i am not getting fuel. pump is not coming on. Car runs if i squirt throtle cleaner in throtle body. Fuses are good. The car remote alarm has not worked in a couple years. Could it be a security issue?

If it is your catalytic converter you would have noticed when you were driving.Your car most likely would have overheated.Catalytic converters get clogged up and don`t let your exhaust flow out right. So if your car only runs for 2-3 seconds and die`s it sounds like something else. When your car was running was it running fine with no problems. If it was it is not your catalytic converter.

Your car don't like the new / copied key your using. The way those keys are made, have another key made using the original key.

May be I have to make my problem clear. The car goes ok when I drive it on plain roads. But moment comes to up hilly roads car loses power and almost stall. it makes only very tardy slow move up hill.

not getting enough back pressure in the exhaust system. weak or lose of power can be caused by this. usually middle box. if you hit it and it rattles thats were your problem is. also can be piston rings falling under pressure.

I ran over a big rock in the road. It went under car and hit undercarriage. The car engine stopped and would not restart like it was't getting gas.

trace your fuel line from your carb back to fuel tank, sounds like you have a severed fuel line. in either primary or return. it will start on starting fluid but won't continue to run without fuel.

My 2004 cummings diesel starts & stalls I replaced the fuel filter canister type and truck was fine. Now it shuts off and restarts after sitting a while?

the engine is starved for fuel, are you sure you put on a big enough capacity fuel filter, they come in different capacities,or you could have a pin hole in the line somewhere letting air into the system,or the fuel pump could be getting weak, you can test this with a fuel pressure tester

(if it is the gas version) disregard if diesel ( dot hav answer for diesel accept for the fuel pump) do not run ethanol in the car, run high octane with 2 cans off octane boost intell the ethanol has ran through... the ethanol is evaporating b4 making it into the intake system causing it to stall,,, and trough errors in the car... (even if you have ran ethanol for a long time, it is a problem that my never go away now) if u can run regular without ethanol

Yeah, I'd also think wiring, but do a check under the Distributor cap anyhow

Shell has had issues with contaminated fuel in the past cant recall what it was but it actually damaged the fuel pump. I hope thats not the issue here can get costly in some cases fuel pumps on GM are a whole assembly. DOes the gas gauge still read properly? This was a big tell with the contamination last time. Gauge would read empty even when full.
