They may not need to be replaced but they need to be repaired. Somewhere under there in that wire harness you have a power wire that has a bare spot chafed in the insulation. You'll have to unwrap that bundle, the one you jiggle, and check each wire carefully for a bare spot. Start with any wire that is red, pink, orange; those are the normal power wire colors, but don't stop if you find one. There could be more than one. Just tape over the bare spots, you don't necessarily need to replace them. If the wire harness has beeen rubbing on a piece of the car try to reposition it so this doesn't happen again. Zip ties work good for this. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: when i hook a new battery up i keep blowing the main fuse in the fuse box under the hood. Are the poles on the battery reversed from the standard batteries?

see the schematic:the + RED cable must be in+ and Black cable in -minus.
6_19_2012_11_41_08_pm.jpg6_19_2012_11_42_15_pm.giftest after you did the correct polarities, see if the solenoid or starter motor are in SHORT circuit. disconnect each wire step from step until you isolate the short.

God bless you

SOURCE: mazda 626 ac fuse keeps blowing

Try unplugging the compressor then put in a new fuse. If the fuse does not blow, the problem may be the clutch on the compressor.

Ignition fuse blowing

If you have everything unplugged, and your still blowing the fuse, then you have a short to ground somewhere. Here is a picture of the schematic, not really that much going on in this system. I would be checking the main starter wire for chaffing along with any other wires in the area, including the wires coming out of the fuse box. And see if you can at least hear the starter relay click when you try to start it. If you can't hear it, try swapping it with another relay in the fuse box that doesn't have an important function, like fog lamps, or the horn, temporarily of course. If you get tired of blowing large fuses, you can get a circuit breaker of the same amperage at any parts store along with some wire and blade type terminals, and you can insert the blade terminals in the sbf number 4 slots and connect it to the circuit breaker. And inst of blowing a fuse all the time, it will just reset automatically. just make sure it doesn't get too hot. I hope this info helps!

What happens when you hook a care battery up backwards?

Hello Glen, Bad bad things can happen when you hook up a car battery backwards. If your car has a high quality electrical system it might only blow out one or two main fuses. If not, it can cause havoc on the wiring system and burn out the alternator, computer, sensors, modules, and stereo system to name a few.

Could a 1000 amp battery blow fuses in a 1999 blazer

Likely there is a blown fuse but a battery won't blow a fuse on its own. Change any blown fuses and if that fixes the issue and the fuse doesn't blow for awhile then your ok but if the fuse blows quickly then you have an issue with the electrical system and you need to take it to a shop

My daughter car battery went dead had a jump start but her cousin put the leads on the wrong terminal could this have blown the main fuse as no lights at all put new battery on today

Yes this will defiantly blow the main engine fuse. This fuse is located in the engine compartment and is usually bolted down with 10mm bolts.

Replace the transmission range switch for starters, if that doesn't correct the problem you have have a shorted shift solenoid on the valve body inside the transmission.

I have a 1995 nissan pathfinder. i keep have electrical issues. when i first got it two months ago it wouldnt start. replaced battery terminals and it was fine for a while. then the meter fuse would blow...

It sounds like just the one problem. Your tails and the dash illumination lights are all on the one circuit that the fuse keeps blowing. Don't get confused thinking of another main fuse, just focus on this one circuit..
It is very seldom that a short develops at the fuse box, it certainly can happen from corrosion or loose terminals, but it is rare. More likely is a bad wire just like the one you found near the exhaust. Somewhere very likely a wire has had insulation stripped or scraped off, soon as the wire touches metal it will blow the fuse. Were any other wires damaged in that harness for the speed sensor? Or do you see any wires hanging down from under the truck, anywhere going back to the tail lights?
If you did the stereo yourself, were any wires cut going to the dash? I doubt this as the wire for the dash lights would be in a wiring harness that is like a bundle from under the dash up to the instrument cluster. You just have to keep looking for the short.

Hi i have a 1995 ldv minibus and have put the battery terminals on the wrong way around and now it wont start off the key it will bump start when towed but cant seem to work out the fault any ideas thanks...

Sorry to say, but you've blown the alternator to start. Then you may have issues requiring further troubleshooting. It only takes that instant when you connect them backwards to blow the electrical system.

Battery connection

This is your main fusible link (fuse)

Replace the fuse with another 80A one, if it blows again you have a dead short somewhere on the main wiring, else it could be that you got some water in the wirng that caused the fuse to blow.

If it blows again, take it to an auto electrician to trace the fault.
