Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My Jetta's radio wont work after I had to jump start my car. I checked the fuse box and everything looks fine. All of the other electrical components work fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The first pair of jumper cables we used melted and started smoking(everything was hooked up fine.) After we jumped it with a better pair of cables there were initially some lights on the dash indicating there was an electrical problem. After I charged the battery and restarted the car all of the indicator lights disappeared. The only residual problem is that there is no power to the radio. I pulled all of the fuses and they look fine. Not sure what else to do.

SOURCE: Jump Started, Now More Problems

If you are lucky, it probably burnt a/or some fuses somewhere (probably higher amperage fuses, or a Maxi fuse (large fuse), or it might have burnt a fusible link (which looks like a normal wire and varies on locations depending on vehicles but is designed to melt and prevent current flow in the event of a current overload)

But, you also might have fried some electronic modules...

SOURCE: Electrical Problem for a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer

Hey everyone with this problem! Theres a fuse under the hood in the front of the fuse box. Its black and its not in the bow itself but under the cover though! two nuts hold it in place where your cable line comes in from the battery. The fuse costs $15.00 avg. most anyplace! Easy to change and everything will work inside your vehicle! Without it the vehicle will start and run but you will have no functions on the interior, or dash!

SOURCE: 2000 Jetta Radio is dead after a dead battery jump start

Some German cars have anti-theft device inside to make it useless to steal...check at the dealership to see if jumping the battery will activate this(the car thinks its being stolen) .

Car wont stay Running,Door wont Lock-Unlock, Radio dont work and Trunk Pop don't work

It appears that you have an electrical short somewhere. If you are mechanically inclined and have hours of time and electrical knowledge, good luck! Sometimes these problems can be easily found where the wiring harness runs through the firewall from the fuse panel under the dash to the engine compartment relay box. Vibrations of the engine over time on a vehicle over 10 years old will chafe the wires over time on places where the wires lay over body frame components. Also heat and time on a cars wiring harness over a decade can damage wiring in the engine compartment or along exhaust manifold underneath. Try looking in those places for visible damage before tearing out all the interior or dash.

I own a 2000 VW Jetta. Radio completely Dead

Have you checked the radio fuse? You may have blown the fuse when you jumped the car. The fuse box should be out under the hood encased in black plastic.

Car alarm stopped working.. Car wont start

the jetta has a faulty alarm system from the factory i have been working on one in my shop. the alarm moddule is inside the dash behind the light switch and has a 10 pin connector and a 6 pin connector. this can be bypassed if you disconnect both connectors and jump the two large wire on the 6 pin connectors, these wires operate your starter. the car will start and run but your alarm will no longer be active. the door locks and everthing else will still work. the only issue i am having is the factory radio isn't working because it is controlled by the alarm. but worse case scenario i can use an aftermarket radio if need be.
