Well, the only thing left is the switch. It's probably either stuck in, or broken to where it's always showing as on.

Is it Auto or Manual? On some automatic transmissions, the Neutral Safety Switch doubles as the reverse switch, so that's the one you'd want to ask for. Manual trans would have the reverse switch.

Go to your favorite auto parts website and look up your vehicle. Then look up the switch. It'll give you pictures of the part, then that might help you identify the switch, and give you a price. Looks like around $10 or so around here.

There are few switches hooked to that year manual transmissions, possibly only one: the one you're looking for.

How to test:
With the car on jack stands, put key to ON position so the lights come on.

Under vehicle, look on the transmission for components with an electrical connector attached.

Disconnect the electrical connector and see if the lights go out. If there's more than one, try only one at a time. The one that turns out the lights is the one you want.

Hope that helps.

Good luck! :)

All fuses are good - brake lights, rear running lights work fine. but the reverse lights won't come on when put into reverse. Any idea what might be going on? As far as I know the bulbs are still good...

You will need to either replace or adjust your backup switch, it is located on the transmission next to the shifter. Hope this helps, thank you for using FixYa!

My back reversing lights wont work but the bulbs and the fuse are all good?

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If that's the case then it's definitely a reverse switch issue. If the reverse switch is faulty, the reverse light won't work even if the bulbs are fine. It is located underneath the transmission where it triggers when reverse is engaged. Have it replaced and you'll be good.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Hi i have a 97 grand cherokee 5.2l and i have no reverse lights the bulbs are fine and it seems the fuses are fine aswel any ides ?

I think you have the reverse light switch usualy on the gearbox witch can be bad/doesn't work.
Thry findin it, it should be with only 2 wires and on the side of the gear box.

Why wont my reverse lights stay on if they work?

Hello,

if your reverse light don't stay on, first check the bulb.

If the bulb is okay, check the reverse light wire and make sure its intact.

Lastly, check your fuse box. You should find your fuse box under your steering and or inside the bonnet. Check if the fuse has blown.

Good luck.

Reverse light dont work

On the side of your transmission will be a switch with several wires coming out of it. This is your reverse switch that turns on your reverse lights and most likely needs to be replaced
