Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier
Mechanic changed the fuel pump on my daughter's 2004 Cavalier..driving home the light went on and car seems to be jerking slightly when moving after a light or stop. Havent had it checked yet...wondering if it could be the gas cap? The light came on after putting gas in the car.
If it came on right after leaving the shop, take it back there. The engince light indicates that an engine error code has registered in the computer. It may be a 'hiccup' due to the service. There may have been air still in the lines or filter, for example. They can check it and the light can be turned off. They'll want to see what the code is, and that'll help determine what's going on.
If they say that major service is needed, beware and have it checked out by another shop. Not many mechanics are dishonest, and taking it back to them allows the honest ones to check up on their work. If they give you a high estimate for additional work, then taking it to someone else allows them to check up on the first guy's work.
Hope this helps.
Good luck! :)

there wouldn't be any power at the fuel pump unless car was running or if the engine is being cranked over. When you first turn the key on there is about 5second of power at the pump then it turns off.Is the check engine light on?if so have you put a code reader on it to see what code it is.I had the same problem with a cavilier. For the longest time i thought it was the fuel pump but it turned up to be the ignition module.I was told that if the igniton module wasn't working then the fuel pump would't get power

Sounds like there is a blown piston, to be sure have a compression test done on that #2 cylinder, if the reading is low, then you'll know.
A friend of mine had a 95 that did simular things only a little more,
it started smoking, dash lights flickered, etc. Finally, he had to get rid of it, the piston rod went through the engine block.

Number three cylinder is miss fire,it does not mean it is the coil, although it could be,remove the coil, and boot, and spark plug, inspect them to see if the plug,or boot look bad, replace the spark plug, and if the boot is burned or distorted, replace it,a fuel injector can cause a miss fire also, but change the spark plug and see if this solves the problem,if not replace the coil,if it is a dead miss, then the coil might be bad,as for the water in the fuel ,the cap is missing,,and 5 dollars worth of HEET will not hurt, also, fuel from the fuel station, can have water in it.It happens a lot.
