2002 volkswagen Golf GTI drivers side door light won't turn off. Usually the door lights only come on if the door is open but the door has constant power to the light.

The door switch is usually a black round plastic button that is activated when you open or close the door. The door switch is normally found below the level of the window. It is not on the door, it is on the body in a hole. It is found either in the front of the door opening ( nearer the engine) or on the post between the doors ( on a 4-door) or on the post behind the door ( on a 2-door). Be blessed.l

A broken door switch? Has this happened to you before? Where do i find this "broken door switch"?

  • Josh Ryan Apr 22, 2013

Well i figured that's what you meant by a door switch so i went and looked and i couldn't find anything. I even took a flathead screwdriver and messed with the door latch thing to see if it would do anything on both sides. The passenger door shuts and the passenger light goes off but if i poke the flathead in both door locks it won't do anything. Oh and another thing. Since the drivers door is "always open" when it's not, it wasnt showing the door light until last night where every bump i hit it would make the door light noise and it was annoying. Do you know exactly where this door switch is??

I'm sorry , but I do not. I do know VW doesn't copy other cars. Can you call a VW garage and ask them? Be blessed.

Update: i found out that when i had the passenger door open and i took a scred driver and shut the latch, the passenger light turned off. I tried it with the drivers side, no luck. That's where the door switch is. The door switch is in the lock mechanism/latch itself. Thank you.

SOURCE: Drivers side door lock barrel fell out???

This is a common fault on A4 VAG cars (Mk 4 Golfs, Skoda Octavias, Seat Leon, Beetle, Audi TT , Audi A3) you will need to remove the door card from the inside. Repair kits are available so it may be possible to repair the lock barrel but for the effort htat is required to remove the door card I would replace the lock barrel rather than repair it.

SOURCE: Volkswagen golf GTI 1994 2L wont turn over,

Hi, the likely problem is your safety interlock. If you have a manual transmission, the interlock is above the clutch pedal. If you have automatic trans, the interlock may be on the shifter or the transmission. Let me know if you can't find it.

Please see my tip at . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

Hello there. If you are having those problems i am led to believe that the sensor switch of the driver door is faulty or has come loose. With the door open look for a little button. this button is usually sticking out of the frame on the car. Some vehicles have this button on the door as well. If you dont see a button that means that the switch is in the door lock mechanism. Some VW's have the switch in the lock mechanism, which makes it a pain to replace. Below are pictures of the two different types, Button and lock style.

2002 volkswagen golf gti has a leak in the passerger foot well

hi from uk a common problem with leaks into foot wells are as rain runs down w/screen and inti the bulkhead area below w/screen accesable with bonnet open ? this water runs to either side to a drain hole and onto road via a rubber hose attached to these drains the bottom of hoses are flat so as to let water flow out but not inwards ok so far ?? now leaves and dust etc are sometimes carried to these drains resulting in eventual clogging at bottom and top of hoses so water collects in pools eventually finding its way into car ? take a look at these and ensure hoses are clear ??

2002 VW GTI Fuse Map

The fusebox is on the drivers side, accessible when the driver's door is open, just below and forward of the switch for the lights.

My stereo did not work when I started my car one evening. I have read on wikianswers that it was fuse 37 or 42. Both fuses were fine, but upon reseating fuse 42 the cd player ejected the CD. When I turned the car on again it worked fine.

So I'd check those two fuses out. There should be a fuse card in the fuse box that show where each is. Lacking that, fuse 37 is the very bottom fuse in the middle row of larger fuses. Fuse 42 (my problematic one) is the 3rd fuse up on the right hand row of larger fuses.

Good luck!
