SOURCE: 2004 kia sedona 6 cly ... how to change the spark plugs anyone???

Hope not too late to help. I have changed all plugs 2 times now myself. Mine is a 6 cylinder. The rear 3 plugs are impossible to remove without unbolting the intake manifold and other contraptions like the throttle/cruise control cable and 4 inch air intake tube. If you have engine work experience, great! If not, color code every disconnect then match up on the reinstall including plug cables.
Here is where you might not know what to do. First, the gasket (Planum) is a reusable metal gasket. Their is no replacement at Kia (crazy but I asked everywhere in NC) so be sure to tighten each bolt on the intake alternating and to speck amount, a 12 foot socket 1/4 inch wrench is plenty of torque so don't overdo it. I believe 15 lbs of torque is correct but verify. If you like taking risks just tighten using your wrist only (not biceps mustle) as tight as you can using wrist only now! [Rent a torque wrench or buy for $10 - $20 if you don't own one].
Since your doing all this work, change all plug wires and only use Platinum or better plugs that last at least 60k miles of use. You wont be able to change back 3 wires later by the way so buy 3 OEM Kia wires (not the kit) to save money if you want. I mixed plugg types and mine ran just fine!!

Plan on 4 meticulous hours your first time. My 2nd time took 1.5 hrs with a short break.

SOURCE: please tell me how to

Hi,

Unfortunately, there is no easy way - the upper intake (surge tank) has to come off in order to access the plug wires and plugs.

Removal

1. Detach the P.C.V. hose and brake booster vacuum hose.
2. Disconnect the connecting part of vacuum hose.

3. Remove the surge tank stay.

4. After reducing the pressure of fuel pipe line to prevent fuel overflow, disconnect the connecting part of the high pressure hose.

5. Remove the surge tank stay.

Once this is off, then remove ignition coils and spark plug wires. At that point, you can access and remove the spark plugs:

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF SPARK PLUG CABLE

Improper arrangement of spark plug cables will induce flashover between the cables, causing misfiring and surging at acceleration in high-speed operations.

Disconnect the spark plug cable from the spark plug. Pull on the spark plug cable boot when removing the spark plug cable, not the cable, as it may be damaged.
2. Using the spark plug wrench, remove all of the spark plugs from the cylinder head.Take care not to allow contaminants to enter through the spark plug holes.

3. Check spark plugs for the following:

(1) Broken insulator

(2) Worn electrode

(3) Carbon deposits

(4) Damaged or broken gasket

(5) Condition of the porcelain insulator at the tip of the spark plug

4. Check the spark plug gap using a wire gap gauge, and adjust if necessary.
Standard valueSpark plug gap : 1.0 - 1.1 mm (0.039 - 0.043 in.)

5. Re-insert the spark plug and tighten to the specified torque. If it is overtorqued, damage to the threaded portion of cylinder head may result.
Tightening torqueSpark plug : 20 - 30 N·m (200 - 300 kg·cm, 15-22 lb·ft)

Hope i helped you.

2002 kia sedona missing when takeing off and going up hills check engine light is on. started gradually now does it all the time.oil is full and coolent is good.has over 111,000 miles

I had this same problem at 113,000 miles on my Sedona and I replaced the spark plugs and wires and it took care of this missing. It's an expensive job unless you do it yourself. However, the check engine light came back on so I have to replace the o2 sensor also. Here is a link to a tutorial on how to change the spark plugs. This is the best information you will find for changing spark plugs on a Sedona.

In general, if you have to ask "how to change a spark plug", it's probably better to let a professional handle it. If you do it yourself, don't forget to gap the plug.
