Question about 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX
There are several possibilities for this problem. If you have a 4.6L V-8, there is usually a problem with the channels for EGR flow. On this motor the airhorn on top of the intake manifold must be removed and the groove or channel under the gasket cleaned. It takes a new gasket and the removal of 8 bolts and the air snorkel. Check if egr is operating.
If this is another motor, check the egr, then chamber that egr is mounted on.
For either application, what is happening is the flow is not good enough where it is measured. The reason is either the flow is not present before the Egr or the Egr is not opening to let the flow through it. That is why the egr needs to be inpected to see if it leaks. If the egr does not leak, then the channel is blocked.
