Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

I have a 98 ford explorer xlt when i go up a hill and excelerate the vehicle vibrates really bad but on level ground at about 30 to 50 miles an hour it runs fime any ideas

to be sure let the engine cool down then check the coolant level if is low than normal put some until reach the normal level then start the truck dont drive it on the road in five minutes or less will be hot enough to creat pressure on the cooling sistem check for leaks around the engine if the weather is too cold some steam will come out from the exaust pipe and some times a little bite of water from the butom of the moufler but dont have to be antifrezz if is coolat coming from the exaust sistem beter tow the truck is cheaper to change a cilinderhead gasquet than the engine good luck

When coming to complete stop, I feel some vibration. what could it be. going up hill notice a little hesitation.


Up hill

Bad Ignition Coils
EGR Valve going bad



At a stop and hesitation

Clean MAF and Throttle Plate

CRC MAF Cleaner
CRC Throttle Body Cleaner


You can't leave spark plugs in there over 60,000 miles
Change fuel filter every 3 years along with the plugs

Explorer alarm goes off randomly


There can be many things causing this. In my experience a bad battery can short while the vehicle is parked. Its easy to have tested and Autozone or Oreillys will test your whole vehicle free.

Next possibility would be dirty Battery cables or loose battery connections to the Ground wire. Of course, some vehicles have additional triggers for Glass breakage and motion. Sometimes on cars with Autoload leveling, the Air pump will work to level the car and the Alarm will sense the current draw and vibration and go off.

These Alarms are not foolproof. You have a "Panic" button on your remote. If another person has a device casting this signal your Alarm will pick it up and activate. Your Dealer may have testing equipment for your system to correct the sensitivity of the unit. I hope it is simply a bad battery and your problem will go away with a new one.

Most repair shops will only do a complete rebuild. Reason is, they have a guarantee attached, and corporate policy dictates they cannot repair a partial problem. There is some merit to their logic, as in...most transmission (automatic) problems have a source...which may quickly disable or break another band or drive servo if there is no complete rebuild.

As for price, parts alone would only run $50-75, for standard reverse band...labor would still be full price...because they will still charge for removal and installation, and have to remove several other servos and bands to get to the reverse band.

The front end sounds like it is coming apart with vibration noise at 55+ mph. The noise goes away when you keep some pressure on the gas pedal. The 2003 Ford Exploer has 91k miles.......Any ideas?


these vehicles have hub bearings on them and you have one that is probably in really bad shape, suggest not driving. Jack the front end off of the ground and try moving the wheel back and forth from the top and bottom if it moves a great deal it is more than likely a bad bearing. Also, pay attention to the upper and lower ball joints they are the two pivot points at the top and bottom of the wheel.
