If your ABS light is on, that could be the problem. I had this break on mine while I was turning, it looks like a really thin hose. If this is the problem, shave the liner back to reveal the two wires, add an extension to the wires and hook them back up and this should fix the problem.

If there is no obvious place to attach this hose, and it doesn't appear to be broken at the end from being attached to something, it's probably a vent tube from the axle, and is nothing to worry about.

I have a vacuum line that comes from the front axle differential, where does it hook up

It is not a vacuum line but a vent hose for the front differential. It can be attached just about anywhere above the axle, where it won't interfere with any moving parts.

BEst way to due the job is to just replace the front axle, this assures you that there is not sand or any other forein material that could cause any issues with your axles. Especially if this is a 4 wheel drive.

I have a hose hanging off the back of my front differential and dont know where it goes

may be the breather hose for the axle. looking around can be difficult seeing theres not alot of room. there should be a stem coming out the top side of the axle, around the pumpkin.

Hose from the front differential.

This hose you refer to is the breather tube for the differential. It connects to a fitting at the top of the differential housing and runs up the back side of the radiator so you won't run the risk of water entering the differential if you submerge the front axle in water. Reconnect the rubber hose to the fitting on the differentail.
