Question about 1997 Ford Escort
Did you replace the pilot and through out barrings? i would go back and check all parts definately not supposed to rattle. something is not rite un safe to drive.and if you didnt replace both barrings you should every time u put a new cluth in its like the rotor on ur distributor but not the cap.

Unfortunately, you can't really tell until you have the parts in front of you. If the clutch showed no signs of slipping in any gear, then the disk and pressure plate are probably ok. Throwout bearing troubles are usually heard as a sort of screech when the pedal is depressed. If the pressure plate is the type that has 3 fingers that are pushed by the bearing and one of the fingers was bent/broken, it would make a rattling sound. If the car has considerable miles, it might be worthwhile to replace the whole assembly even though the clutch itself seems to working well. Hope this helps!
